3wbdriver's 2014 TE build thread.

3WB, the truck is coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing the bumper...

BTW, I keep running across you. Been reading your posts on the Sub2K forum as well! haha

Take it easy man.

Spent a couple days down in New Orleans getting the SSS hybrid winch bumper installed and seeing the sights. Will post better pictures soon hopefully.

I brightened the low front shot to try and get a better view of the underside. And I have no clue why the 2nd picture is so much bigger than the others.

Left picture is fairly early on with Bilsteins at 1.75" front and 0 rear, tires and wheels, and Nfab set bars.

Right picture is after adding Shrockworks step sliders, Baja Rack, and SSS Slimline Hybrid bumper w/winch. I'm guessing an additional 250 - 300 pounds of steel with these add ons. Suspension has not been changed. I'm feeling the additional weight now, but it has not adversely affected the handling so far. The front end looks like it has dropped ~1/2 - 3/4".

Added a set of Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers I've been sitting on. It's nice to have a few extra days off while they relocate the rig a couple hundred miles. Before and after pics. And it did make me finally do the front fender mod. I was pleasantly surprised to find the front fender skin could be cut with a sharp box cutter blade. I was marking where to cut with my handy dandy Swiss Army knife and it cut right in there. I didn't even have to go search for the Dremel (my wife and I both use it so it never gets put back in the same location.....).

Looking good. Did you do the hub centric spacers?

Yes. I had been running 1/4" spacer plates up front to get my wheels away from the brake calipers. I bought the Spidertrax over the summer in 2 different purchases from people who opted not to use them. But even with the factory sized 265's I did have to do the front fender mod and the mudflap cutout. I'm getting 2" #885 OME springs and 1.25" Traxda rear spring spacers installed tomorrow, and I am working a deal to get a pair of Toytec 2" Superflex rear springs that another member removed for shorter ones.

Well I just purchased 2 sets. I had been contemplating getting some and your post was a nice reminder. Wonder how much more trimming I will need to with my 285s. I already removed the mud flaps and pushed the fender liners in. We shall see.

The amount of cutting/trimming all depends on the specific tire and its profile, as well as the individual vehicle to some degree (tolerance stack up and minor assembly differences). The good thing is that unless you get into a BMC situation, the changes are ridiculously easy.

I would actually recommend NOT trying to use a dremel. The plastic has a tendency to melt rather than cut. A good sharp razor or knife is all it takes (as mentioned :-)).

OME 885's added to the front and Bilsteins set at 0. Traxda 1.25" spacers added to rear. Finally........ Thanks hrod79. The ride is back to the progressive rate it had before adding the SSS bumper and winch. The visible difference is more obvious standing next to the 4R than it is in the pictures.

And the stickers are still breeding. :becky:

Taken in February after adding the Bilstein kit at 1.75" front and 0 rear.

Taken 10/11 after SSS winch bumper installed.

Taken 10/30 after OME install w/Bilsteins reset to 0 lift, and Traxda spacers added to rear.

Ha on the stickers :D

I'm always tempted on putting more stickers on then taking some off again :D

Still waiting for my bumper. Got the winch and I love how the hook is red as that'll fit my color scheme awesomely.

What do u think u got in total lift up front with 885's?
BTW it looks great.

Consensus on the forum says I should have gained 3" from stock. I measured a gain of about 1 1/4" over what I rolled up with. That is after I had them reset the shocks from 1.75" to 0 before installing the OME's. The bumper/winch combo dropped the nose ~1/2 - 3/4" basically taking the progressive "soft" part of the factory front springs away. It looks like it's back to a slight reverse rake after adding the spacers and the ride is back to what it was like before the added weight up front. Mind you I didn't have a problem with how it drove with the bumper up there. I just wanted my front level back. I am negotiating with another member to get his no longer installed Toytec 2" Superflex springs. So those spacers won't stay in the back for long.

I just remembered I hadn't posted pictures of my trip to Kentucky the first weekend in October. We have a group from another online forum that gathers over a weekend each fall to get together, make holes in paper, ring steel targets, and tell tall tales around a campfire at night :usa2:. This was my 4th year making the pilgrimage, and the 1st for the White Whale. Since the wife couldn't make the trip this year I decided I would camp out with the more adventurous guys instead of luxuriating in the hotel at night. I took it across some truck stop scales during the trip up because I was curious just how much gear I was carrying. With a full tank and my "muscular buttocks" in it she weighed out at 5,840 lbs. So subtracting my "muscular buttocks" and figuring a dry weight of about 4,600, I was carrying right around 960 lbs of gear. While she did ride like a 74 Cadillac she maintained her road manners quite nicely during the 1400 mile round trip. So now I know I can pack her to the gills and not worry about overloading her. But it has also got me thinking about buying a 3 x 6 or 4 x 8 utility trailer and enclosing it for these kinds of trips. Time will tell.

The tarp in front of my tent is made by Kelty. It is intended to be tied off to a roof rack and packs down into a bag about the size of an adult's lower leg. Very handy and lightweight, and if I get 2 more posts it can stretch out upright to about 11' from the vehicle.

Here is a short video of me going up and down a power line trail that ran across the owner's property across from where we camped. The other guys were dubious and it kept calling to me so I just had to go for it.

Heh... Nice and smooth, did the a-track even kick in on the way up?
