4.56s or 4.88s with 35s?

I know most people run either 4.56s or 4.88s when on 35s but i want to know personal opinions of you guys before i order mine. I'm leaning towards 4.88s but i want to see what ya'll think

Having just gone through this myself, I would consider nothing less than 4.88's. 4.88's still make it manageable for driving on the highway, which is nice with the Montana 75mph speed limits, and the supercharger really helps with that low end torque. I'm happy with what I chose. If it was a PURE trail rig, then I would have gone to 5.29's, but no way would I ever want lower than the 4.88's now.

NOW THAT IS A TAILGATE PARTY!!!! LOL just saying

get 4.88s no point spending money on a gear that is gonna MAYBE do the trick. go with something that is gonna do it and leave you some room to expand.

How is fuel consumption with 4.88's and 35's? I realize once you go this route, your throwing the idea of economy out the window but I'm curious, knowing you'll be revving higher just to do the same speed on the highway. I've always wondered how 4.56 and a S/C would do and if it would be the best "compromise" with 35's. However, everyone seems to say 4.88's are best for that huge tire.

Well I got a buddy that has a double cab Tacoma, fully armored, lifted 6", 35s, 4.88s, and supercharged with all the fuel mods running a 2.1 pulley. He gets about 13 in the summer and 10 in the winter. So there ya go should be close to that.

Im N/A with 4.33's and 35's and get 15 city and have got up to 18MPG on long highway trips through a 4,000 foot mountain pass.

I totally agree with "Quatre Coureur" on this one... 5.29's all the way. 4:88's aren't enough with 35's.

I'm doing 4.88's on 35's only because I dd the 4runner a lot and will be switching back and forth from 33's to 35's. If I were to run 35's all the time and don't DD the 4runner much, then I'd go with 529's.

Yeah I'm in the same boat too. I run a set of 32" studs in the winter so that's why I stayed with the 4.88's. Otherwise I would've went with the 5.29's

75-80mph would be crazy with 5.29s... The supercharger takes care of low end grunt, but the gears determine your top end rpm's

I've noticed quite a bit of opinion differences between those who are supercharged and those who aren't.

And I have the 5-speed tranny too so that makes a difference as well. With the 4.88's and 32's I'm revving about 3000 RPM and 65 mph. With the 35's and 65 mph I'm at about 2400 RPM.
