4.56 with SC vs 4.88 with SC on 35" tires

I have read whatever I can on the forums comparing the two and there's not a lot of user feedback.

I just placed an order with ECGS with 4.56s knowing that ill probably put a blower on my heavy slug of a 5th gen on 295s and will more than likely eventually get to 35"s and long travel.

I would like this rig to still be able to travel comfortably at highway speeds 75-80 mph for trips to other parts of the country. Im aware that this is asking a lot from a 5th gen with 35s but thats my platform and thats what im going with.

My question...is 4.56s with a blower the right call knowing that at times I plan to drive for quite a bit of distance at highway speeds before getting to dirt or would 4.88s with a blower be a better option for 35s regardless of RPMs and interstate travel.

Will 4.56s with a blower be enough or would it just be a better call to go with 4.88 and the blower.

Im in the PNW and see a mixed bag of steep grade and long stretches of flat highway. My 4runner is pretty heavy...armor, drawers, rtt, gear, kids, dog, etc...

Is there someone out there who went 4.88s then SC and wish'd they had 4.56s?

Thanks for any feedback

It's all very subjective. What someone finds acceptable, might be totally unacceptable to someone else.

I CAN say that as your axle gearing gets lower, the smaller pinion can get weaker. There is just less metal in a smaller (lower geared) pinion.

Is thinking that a SC would help make up for the lack of peppiness that the 4.56s would provide compared to a rig only regeared to 4.88s while providing better highway miles an accurate train of thought?

I used to have 35's with a whipple supercharger and 4.56's and while it was short lived it had no issues on the highway nor offroad. I kind of miss the whine of the supercharger.

I haven't put an SC in my 4Runner but did put a TRD SC in my FJ Cruiser. It was great, except on gas. Going west sucked because of the lower octanes etc. It loved 93, ethanol free, good luck finding that in a lot of places.

I also run 4.88s with my 35's on my 4Runner with an Overland Tailor Tune. I don't feel the need to supercharge at all.

The difference between 4.88 and 4.56 is only 7%, so say you cruise at 3000 rpm with 4.56, you would be at 3200 rpm with 4.88.
