4 cyl issues?

how much is that shorty? exhaust shops in my area are a bunch of hacks, and i don't want them doing any work on my trucks. prefer the shorty.

where is the header purchased from? toyota? other parts as well?

I have a "mini header" for the 3rz that i just pulled off mine when I put the LCE street headers on. I might be willing to sell it to ya :jump:

As far as reliability I love mine, it is no powerhouse but it can get you to and from and have some fun off-road. I cannot answer to how an auto feels as mine is a wrist shaker. They are also, in my opinion, a lot easier to work on than the 5vz because it is an inline 4.

If ya want the LCE Street headers they are 50 state legal, I did them on mine then had an exhaust shop in Plant city do my flange. If you wanna see their work you can always stop by or we can meet up one day.

It does make doing an oil change a bit harder as the 4-1 is right where you would stick your arm through to take off the filter.

I didn't take off the header, but I have the oem shorty header on there so it's a little less crowded. I also did it during an oil change, but you won't have to dump the oil to do it, you will loose the small amount in the filter though. Just top it off after, also go to the car wash and wash all that oil off there after to make sure it doesent continue to leak.

I need to do this too. I just did an oil change so I'm glad I dont have to drain it.

I haven't seen anyone mention it in this thread yet, but the 2RZ and 3RZ are known for exhaust valves to get out of tolerance and burn up.

I think that is the only subject that has not been discussed. The 3rz responds very well to tuning period. Even keeping the engine na can be built to match and surpass the 5vz without doing anything more than bolt on parts.

I haven't looked too closely into this yet, mostly because I still haven't got mine wired up yet, but what bolt ons would get you 200hp out of a 3RZ? Header/cam/intake?

One of mine is close. I adjusted the valves about 10k ago. I figure in another 20 I can check it and if need be replace a couple of the valves. Not sure how to do that or if just pulling the head and replacing them all would be the better idea.

I did mine when I had the engine on the stand, bought the special little tools and everything, it was a complete PITA. I tossed the tools and pulled the cams and still had trouble getting a couple out. I don't know how many miles were on the motor, but they were really baked on.

All of which is to say, if you have to pull the head or pop the cams out for any reason, check your damned valves when you do. :)

I love my 2.7 3rz. My engine is stock other than the OEM mini header and it has plenty of power, you just need to push it a little harder and keep it in ECT. This engine does very well at higher RPMs. The only time it feels weak is going up steep hills with a heavy load, but I usually get 22-23 mpg (15' steel wheels, 235-75-15 tires, no lift) Had the valves checked at about 190k and all where still in spec. It has 205k with no issues, take care of it and this engine will last forever. The header mod is a must. Also keep the throttle body cables in spec to keep good throttle response.

Love my 2.7-5 speed runner. Just like everyone stated previously there is a ton of spare room under the hood. Good for mods and easy to figure out since it lacks in the bells and whistles. I have almost 235,000 miles on mine lifted 5 inches on 33's. Yes, I'm not racing anyone but I still don't have a problem going 70 on the highway if I need to. My old 98 6cyl limited didn't seem to be any faster than this thing and ate twice the gas sitting stock.
