4-Light Raptor Mod

Since I purchased my truck in August, I've been looking at ideas for the Raptor Mod that look a little different from the rest. I was in a bit of a bind because I didn't want to spend the ridiculous money it costs for plastic to upgrade the grille to a "TRD Pro" but I didn't like the way the two-light mod looked for the TRD ORPs.

I took a little bit of a gamble and instead went a row down from where everyone else goes and did 2 on each side. For anyone looking here are the results:

I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to symmetry, so I was nervous about it being a little low of vertical center on the upper grille. That being said, I'd love to know your guys' thoughts!

Also, if you're doing the mod, I'd highly suggest getting some quick connects for each light. That way, if any of them go out you can replace them quickly OR if you move along to a different style of light, you can do so easily without rewiring.

Looks good ACC. I was in your same situation and I also went with the 4 lights - I like the way it looks.

Here are the lights I used in case anyone is interested: iJDMTOY-LED-Lighting-Cruiser-Projector
(We'll see how well they hold up over time.)

I like that they were already wired up with quick connects - made them a breeze to install. They're really bright and low profile when off.

Looks nice, I thought about doing this when I had these style amber LED's, nice to see what it would have looked like. Props for being different

Haha for sure! And thank you, but honestly useful mods are kind over-rated, some of the most fun installs have been silly unneeded bolt on projects!

Looks good. How do they mount?

Thanks! There's a ring in the back that screws down. It will grab the lip above the light, but the grill is smooth under the light so there's nothing to grab. It's in there pretty snug though so I don't think it's going to fall out.

I've only had them on a couple weeks, but they've held up fine after a few runs through the car wash and a decent rain storm (i.e. "San Diego blizzard!!" haha)

I'm really liking these. How hard were they to install? Is there an installation guide online anywhere for these? I already added them to my cart.

The iJDMTOY website has generic install instructions, but they're horrible so don't waste your time. It's very easy to wire up. The included wire was long enough to run back past the battery and through the firewall on the driver side.

I went through the smaller hole to the left of the larger grommet since it's starting to get a little crowded:

Then I used an add-a-fuse in an empty acc slot and grounded right next to the fuse box (where I imagine everyone does):

That way they turn on/off with the key. I thought about adding a switch to the line so I could manually turn them off when driving, but I really don't think I'll ever need to "black out" while driving my personal vehicle. (I have a specific work car for that! :biggrin2

I have been seeing a lot of these light mods on the 2014+ 5th Gen 4Runners, but never on the earlier 5th gen models like mine (2013). Part of the issue is the grille diamonds are much smaller, so all the plug and play kits will not work. I decided to get some 3/4" smoked amber markers, and 3D printed some grille inserts to hold them, and also point them out straight since the grille is sloped back where I mounted them on the top row. I would prefer to some LEDs that aren't round, but it's a start I guess.
I am just now starting to look at options for upgrading my vehicle since my toyota warranty finally expired, so yes, I know it looks very stock up front.
