4 Marines killed in Chattanooga TN

Yet heart disease kills how many service members per year? What about weapon related accidental deaths to our service men and women? Crazed lunatics exist everywhere, but the real losses are being amassed by our #1 enemy, our own decisions. You can't make a profit as a gun company if people are only scared of heart disease, though.

I'm quite sorry for the losses of these men, and the losses for their families. Yet, terrorism is really a very small issue in the US compared to far larger, internal social and health problems. I'm so upset about it that I want the real dangers facing our communities and service men/women. I can promise you that far fewer are in any sort of danger posed by terrorists than are by the aformentioned reasons.

Perspective, gentlemen. Let's not forget to use reason and look at the bigger picture when we're develping our perspective and response.
there is a big difference between our choices, and being attacked.

I would be happy to die by my own choices, but not by some scumbag who attacks me.

its only a small issue, until its knocking on YOUR door.

Please don't misinterpret or generalize my remarks to one particular poster as a any sort of disrespect towards our countries service members, active or otherwise. My recently passed grandfather was 78th infantry in WWII and was a benchmark of what men should be measured against. He also never talked about his experiences or said a bad word about anyone.

However I'm confident in our nations ability to protect itself domestically without the need for this fantasy red dawn thing certain and hopefully few people seem to lust after.
oh, if those 4 marines could talk....
except they cant, because their ability to defend themselves was removed....

This one's for you. Written in Germany 1946 Martin Niemoller.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Large scale yes small scale NO! The bad guys know this as well that's why they will never mount a large scale attack across the border. It will just be small strikes as they know only the police will respond since they don't want to confront professional soldiers. This is how it works as I am sure you are aware. So trusting the government to protect you when you need it the most will probably be a bit delayed...

The design of these recruiting offices is really shitty in that it makes for an easy target with high leathality for this type of attack.

I remember the recruitment office I shipped out of and later served 2 weeks working from my home town was narrow and long. The room was only 15-20 feet wide but very deep. The killer coward never even went inside. He just flooded it with bullets.

I think the most practical solution here is to allow the offices to carry if they wish and to install bullet proof glass.

1946. Too bad he didn't tell his fellow Germans that about 10 YEARS EARLIER.

Terrorist for sure, just look at him. Dylan Roof though, far too light a complection for terrorism..

This is somewhat a philosophical discussion but here's my take.

Dylan Roof and all the other domestic shooters, the columbine style attackers were mass murderer ... Not terrorists.

I don't care about whether they were racists or just depressed losers. They were mass killers and not terrorists.

The Islamic terrorists are often domestic, even the 9/11 hijackers lived in San Diego for YEARS before carrying out their attack.

But these radical islamists carried out their attacks in the name of a foreign political movement of jihadism against America. Their ideology was foreign and against the USA specifically. That is terrorism in my book.

Now if you want to get real smart about it you should ask ... What sect of Islam are these terrorists almost always from?

From 9/11 to Fort Hood, to Tennessee, to the terrorists in Nigeria shooting up malls .... They are nearly always Sunni Wahabbist Islam. And they are funded by our so called friends and Allies in Saudi Arabia, Pakastan, Quatar and the UAE. They are not Shia, not from Iran. Even the Vice President, who like him or not is a major political figure of the US government said "our biggest problem is our own Allies"

Why did he say that .... because Saudi Arabi is now and has been funding ISIS. It isn't a coincidence that Bin Laden was Saudi, 14 of the 9/11 hijackers were from there as well.

I'm not certain I fully understand what you're saying here. Terrorism by definition is the use of violence and intimidation is the pursuit of political aims.

I'm struggling with the idea that religious extremism and/or organized funding from religious extremists is more a prerequisite for what you can call terrorism? Or that Islam should be singled out for their fringe radical extremists and identified as terrorism while senseless violent attacks carried out by white far right christian fundamentalist extremists are not.

It seems so much more cut and dry for me personally. Racism is racism, violence is violence, terrorism is terrorism.

Ex: The "Army of God" continues to praise and exalt the likes of Paul Jennings Hill or Eric Rudolph.

Heart disease blew up Twin Towers? Toe fungus (affecting billions of toes) beheaded that guy across the pond?

Yeah, perspective and reason are hard to see in your post. Let's wait for more attacks before we care. Europeans are finding that strategy to be a failure.

History does repeat itself. So does stupidity and ignorance.

I call bullsh1t - you have such a bias for the anti-white crowd that it can't be that "cut and dry" for you. I think you forgot to add your other qualifiers such as when the victim is black or when the aggressor is white.

Because those scenarios are often more fraught with blatant injustices are more and more frequent doesn't make it a bias of mine personally, just more topical I suppose.

I despise religious fundamentalist extremists equally. And if you have a problem with your religions fundamentalists, then maybe somethings wrong with your religions fundamentals.

But by all means, if assumptions about me make it easier for you to dismiss my remarks, have at it.

To me is simple. Columbine was not terrorism, it was mass murder.

9/11 was terrorism because it was a FOREIGN ideological attack on the US soil against the US people and the US government. Attacks on Police and the Military in the name of radical Islam are also terrorism and an attack on the US government.

The Federal Building attack in Oklahoma City was tried under US laws for Mass Murder, not terrorism. This lines up with the fact that he didn't have a foreign ideology.

But in recent years the government has started charging anyone with terrorism for practically anything they don't like. I may be alone but I don't think animal rights activists who perform non-violent acts should be charged as terrorists. It doesn't make sense.

Well, terrorism can't even be clearly defined by insurance companies and, trust me, they want it that way. Sometimes it not the act but the 24/7 news coverage and of course, social media. Monkey see, monkey do.......we can be our own biggest enemy at times and the media plays a big role in making these killers infamous.
