Last week at five in the morning i was struck by an acura cl who was trying to avoid a turning taxi cab leaving my 4 runner totalled and luckily no one hurt. i only had the car for 7 months. now the question is, should i get another?

First of all, it's great to hear that no one was hurt.

You might want to seriously consider another one -- it kept you from getting hurt in the wreck. There are several other threads about the 4Runner being in an accident, and the vast majority walk away without injury.

And don't forget the reliability of the Toyota products.
 
yeah thats so true! glad so see no one was hurt, but i would go for another 4runner, what year was is? and what might u be looking for?
 
my runner was just totaled, I am in the process of purchasing a new one. Just waiting for insurance to cut me a check
 
I suggest getting a new one or a new used one.

I gotta a load of crap of why I wanted a 4runner to begin with - big car gas guzzler yadda yadda yadda.

On Christmas day a POS white celica almost side swiped me on the freeway on the way to dinner. I braked in time, and let the driver have it via the horn.

It was a young teenager :bash: who was trying to change four lanes over to the right <sigh>

Needless to say "evil glares" as I drove by. <grumble grumble>

I'm glad you're okay though!

It depends on whether or not you were satisfied with your last 4runner. You owned it for 7 months, so that should be plenty of time to let you know if the 4runner was a good fit for what you need. When I first got mine I got the sr5 thinking that I could live w/out a locker and the limited flares. In hind sight I wish I had gotten a limited/sport w/the elocker. I also think that I would prefer a manual over the auto. If not another 4runner, what would you be considering?
 
i did really enjoy the 4runner, a manual or leather would have been nice. my other considerations are a 94-95 landcruiser which arent much more truck than the 4 and alot more expensive relatively, or a 96-00 Range rover which i love but am not sure if i could afford to own one due to gas and maintenance. The 4runner seems like practical way to go, though the range is so nice. I ll have to test drive a range to see if its worth it. the 4runner really is a great automobile.
 
I was thinking about gettin a range rover too man... but then i thought about the maintenace on them... i researched and it said that average maintenance on a range rover was approx. $2500/ year...... and that's if nothing MAJOR goes wrong... so far... i've had my 4runner instead and havent had to pay anything for maintenance other than filling up fluids, changing filters and oil changes... they are SOLID vehicles. Only the best. that was my little 2 cents but on a side note... why do land rovers/ range rovers have to have so many freaking maintenace problems? you would think that they would have figured stuff out by now? SHEESH!!!

Glad to hear you were not hurt maximilian and my 99 sr5 has leather and a 5 speed and I am ecstatic to own it. Compared to my previous Runner (a 95 with the 22Re 4cyl) my new ride is quick and comfy. Just came back from Tulsa OK and glare ice on the roadways both ways. I would not have wanted any other vehicle for the trip but of course I am biased towards the fine Runners.

Many of the 3rd gens offer leather, 5 speeds up to 99 or 2000, and even a 4 cylinder option (or the Supercharger!) up to 99 or 2000 also.

Alternately your choice of an older Landcruiser is also wise, and they also hold their value incredibly well if taken care of. I find 'em a little less peppy than the Runners of course....(they weigh more...)

The club I am in is almost exclusively Landcruiser dudes with a sprinkling of us 4Runner guys

I wouldn't mind a rover, but as someone suggested I just couldn't justify the maintenance costs. The yota family is the way to go IMO. For me, the land cruiser is too big, and the rav4....well.... I love my 4runner. Good luck in your search for a new ride. And FYI, if I was more patient I could've gotten the 4runner with the options I really really wanted as opposed to settleing.
