4 Runner stuck in park

hi all,

I went to leave work and the the 4 Runner would not shift out of park. I used the override to get home. Once home I realized I did not have any brake lights. Am I correct to think it's the brake switch located above the pedal? Any info would be great.

Yes the brake light switch is located on the brake pedal assy above the pedal.

i had a similar problem and changing the transmission fluid solved the problem. I've heard of other 4 runners rear breaks sticking as well. the burnt trail lights sound like a different issue.

I just went through this. Swapped out the brake light fuse. The next day, it blew again. And the turn signal fuse went as well. Then I realized the problem - my towing harness was pinched between the rear bumper and the hitch. It shorted both the brake and turn signal circuits. Check there first. Usually, fuses don't blow unless there is a short to ground in the circuit.
