The quirky-looking retro-designed SUV Toyota was sold in America from 2007 to 2014. But even after left-hand drive versions were discontinued, sales went on in Japan - until now, that is.

Toyota announced today that it will be releasing a "Final Edition" FJ Cruiser exclusively for the Japanese market. The FJ Final Edition will feature a unique beige paint, beige interior, 20-inch wheels, bumper-mounted lights, black door handles, a 4.0-liter V6 engine, and a five-speed automatic transmission.

Long live the FJs

Did they really recycle the rims from the 4Runner Limited, paint it the color of 1950's wallpaper, and call it a day?

I'm happy they brought it back for one final run (even if it's just Japan), but man is that a disappointing "Final Edition."

Looks kind of like a 2010 TT version with the 20" Limited Wheels and the Japan market lights/mirrors.

That's a pretty sad final go... final edition should come lifted with smaller wheels/larger tires. Have always liked FJ's, would probably have one if they had more interior space.

Is that a mirror on the front?...

I had one as well - a 2007 one in menstrual red jump. I gave it to my son when I bought my 4Runner and the FJ is still going strong with 150k miles on it. Great vehicle.

My ex had an FJ and that thing was a nightmare to back up in.

Quite possibly the worst blind spots of any vehicle I've ever driven.

Didn't dislike it per se, but it was pretty utilitarian on the inside and had some quirky design features I never quite got.

The early ones did not have backup cameras. My 2012 did have one, but it was a tiny screen that popped up in the rear view mirror. I believe that the last models sold in the US had a screen more like the ones in the new 4Runners, but am not sure.

The blind spots were terrible on the FJ and I like the rearward visibility from the 4Runner.

Yep. It's so the driver can see across the front of the vehicle before he runs over somebody. They are short people don'tchaknow? I say that with tongue firmly in cheek. I spent several years there while in the Army. A more polite society I have never seen elsewhere. I'd go back in a heartbeat. And strangely enough having driven on both sides of the trans hump I have a preference for the right hand side.

It is the only FJ model with the unique black hood, looks really neat.

Love my FJ as much as my 4R! FJ is an '08 and has 135k on it.
