4Gen Limited vs. 5Gen SR5

Probably it's a wrong place to ask (4Gen forum) :)
But anyways. Researching to buy a used 4R.
Looking at two nice cars:
- 2008 4Gen Limited with 65k miles
- 2011 5Gen SR5 with 13k miles
Almost the same price (around 30k)
I love the look of 4Gen.

What are the pro-cons of each option?

I love my 4th, but get that 5th for sure! Especially if it's v6 to v6 comparison...

Even v8 to v6, you really should go with that SR5 5th in my opinion.

**edit. I think I just saw your other post. It is a certified 08 - right? I mean, 13k miles on the 5th vs 65 on the 4th seemed like a no brainer for me, but if you truly "want" the 4th then that's what you should go with.

HOWEVER, you shouldn't really pay more than $25k more the 08. And really a similar price on the 5th, alough I'm not very in tune with 5th Gen pricing...

Try to talk Em down to at least $23 really on that 4th Gen. But be ok to settle on $25.
 
And i doubt that the dealerhsip will go down from 29k to 25k - don't think they are trying to make >5k for themselves on this trade-in
 
I went from a 4th Gen Limited to a 5th Gen SR5 and was very happy overall for my choice. I had the V8, and miss it pulling away from a light , but that is about it.

I am a little biased, I have never liked leather which seems a significant selling point for the Limited to some minds.

I'm now in a 2012 TE, so I also have an opinion on the TE vs SR5 question should it arise.

Do I catch a little attitude on the subject? Just trying to help... My initial thoughts had to do with the miles + newer.

And on the $'s, my thoughts still stand. But don't let anyone talk you into anything. Just go buy that 4th then and enjoy..!
 
Between ONLY those two options I would take the 2011.

However, if you could find a more reasonably priced 08 or 09 I would go that route.
 
I drove a 4th gen V8 for 4 years and it was a good vehicle. Big drawback for me was poor headroom and marginal legroom...and I am only 6'1" 240. It of course ran great. I didn't tow so really didn't need the V8 but it was a sweet power plant.

IMHO, the 5th gens are much tougher looking... Especially after you do a few easy mods/lift, etc. I am a big fan of the increased size as well.

The used market continues to be crazy strong these days. As you are seeing with the very high price of the 4th you're looking at. Plus the V8 4th gens demand a silly high price in this market (Denver)...no way they are worth it to me.

Plus, I swear I am seeing used 4th gens all over the place lately with women driving them...just sayin (ha). They are a bit more "dainty" compared to the 5th gen. Not saying its a VW bug or anything, just an observation.

Oh, yeah, I am waiting for my 2013 5th Gen to arrive! ;^)

Stock 4th gens look slightly soccer mom. Stock 5ths to me look tougher more level etc. I would take the 5th. I like my 4th don't get me wrong especially with a leveling kit but I love the look of the 5ths for sure. Although the lack of AWD in the 5th is a big decision maker/breaker...
 
To be honest, it is all personal preference. I love the 4th gen looks and couldn't live without me V8. There are many members who love their 5th gens and can't live without specific things on their 5th gens. The pros of a 4th gen limited are leather, power seats, dual zone climate control, auto on/off headlights, auto dimming mirror standard, light up running boards, and a few other bells and whistles. I'll leave the 5th gen owners to talk about the pros of their trucks. My advice: test drive both. You can't go wrong with a 4Runner!!
 
I have a 4th gen v8 sport and was going to trade it in for a porsche or bmw m3... i know totally different vehicles but i love the 4th gen so much i didnt. What does that tell you?!!... 4th gen - you wont regret it, plus you will have all the features and great resale. 30k sounds way too much for an 08 btw, ive seen 5th gens with great options for around 30k, not a sr5.

In the end you have to drive both extensively and see if you like the limiteds options v the 5th gen lack of options but looks and low mileage.

One could always save your pennies and find a higher mileage 2010/2011 Limited for not much more...and have XREAS and full-time 4X4.

I'm sorry if it sounded a little bit sarcastic. Did not mean to. My question was - what features of 5Gen SR5 make it better than 4Gen Limited.

Now I see that it's about miles+newer.

Frankly - don't like boxing exterior of 5Gen.

Haha all good. But seriously back to the first thing I said, is that I love my 4th Gen. Love it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. So with that said and that you seem to like em too, then rock n roll snd join the club! I'm sure you'll love it too.
 
I don’t like the 5th Gen, to me it looks like a FJ Crusier and a GM Hummer mated.

Where are the 5th Gens made: USA or Japan? If it was made in USA, I would stick with the Japanese made 4th Gen. I went from a 98 Tacoma (Japan) to a 06 Tacoma (USA) and the 98 had better workmanship in the construction details. Also, the 98 felt better built than my 06.

4Runners prices keep going up and increased greatly over the years. Here is an example: back in 2007, I bought a 2004 V8 4Runner SR5 4x4 (all possible options selected) with 66k miles for $14k. In Aug 2012, I bought a 2005 V6 4Runner Limited 4x4 with 119K for $15k. I have been told that the 4Runner hold their prices better than any other Toyota car.
