4H Mode-do i have a problem?

Got a 2012 4Runner Trail version. Don't know too much about the options yet but had it in 4H mode last week after some serious snow. The roads were mixed wet and slush. When trying to turn in the parking lot at slow speeds it seemed like the drivetrain was binding up and would eventually stop the vehicle. It felt as though the front wheel operate on a locked diff and my turning radius was too sharp on a not "slippery" enogh pavement. I talked to the dealer and was advised I should only use it off-road or when the roads are really bad. I just gave up a 95 Land cruiser AWD and liked 4 wheel drive in mediocre conditions, not just real bad. Is the binding normal and do the roads have to be fully snow covered to use the 4H mode.

Yeah I did the same early on. Pretty much the road wasn't slippery enough and too sharp of a turn. Probably still ok. Drive in a straight line and put in 4wd and see if it makes any noise in a straight line. Then take it out. No sound you should and I say again should be ok. Sound...get it checked out. I wish I had a limited just for this reason. But I still love my rig.
