They poppped off very easily, just pried them off. Stick anything in the slot and pop them off. Meant so you can gain access to the bulbs.

Concealed Cargo Area
I built a raised platform just above the wheel wells and covered it with carpet. The sides over the wheel wells are hinged so they fold up for easy removal when I need space for larger items. The platform is made from 3/4" plywood. The supports are furniture legs. I plan to replace the furniture legs with a plywood support running from the back of the seat to the back of the platform, as this is the part I like the least. The over benefit of this is it give me some private space for my laptop bag, etc. Mine did not come with the retractable cover, which is an expensive dealer item.

Lots of good ideas on here. I'm a recent 4R owner (09 SR5 4WD) and wish there was more storage in these rigs - my Subaru Outback has more nooks to store things than this does. Currently, I'm using a zippered tool bag in the back to store larger items like fire extinguisher, road triangle, folding shovel, etc. It has small rubber feet on it, so it doesn't slide around too much. I've got a large first aid kit, emergency blanket/tarp in one side compartment; ice scraper & squeegee in another; cargo net, leather gloves & hitch pin in one of the wheel well compartments; misc survival gear (knife, matches, whistle, compass) in the other wheel well compartment; mag light rides in the driver's door pocket.
One comment on fire extinguishers - I carry a 2.5lb ABC extinguisher in my rig and recently had to use it to put out a car fire. It's amazing how quickly these get depleted. It was a small fire & I barely managed to get it put out. If you need to use one of these, you better have a good plan on where you're going to spray it.

Yet another way to skin the cat that takes up less space than the built-in boxes, but admittedly, not as complete.
Someone gave me one of those emergency tool kits (jumper cables, screwdriver with interchangeable bits, wire ties, etc.) that comes in a hard plastic case. I just stuck the appropriate half of some velcro (hooks?) strips on the back of the case and it stick it to the seat back. Did the same thing with my first aid kit. One could probably also rig a holder for a small fire extinguisher this way.
