4runner 1993 rear window problem

I recently bought a 4runner 1993 and i have a problem with the rear window(trunk's windows). It does not go down. The motor works fine, I think the problem was that the 4runner was in a garage like 6 months(or more) without using because the old owner moved.. How can i get it to go down. I don't know much of cars, so any help going to be appreciated Thanks in advance.

Can you give us more information on the problem? Like using the key or the console control.

If neither work then you will have to open the panel from the inside and see why the motor is not engaging.

the window is stuck or something. To make it go down i have to use the key and try to push it down slowly.. That's the only way I can get it to go down

Do you live in part of the country that gets snow? Most Canadian 2nd gen 4runner owners have changed the motors a few times. I had the same situation with my first runner exactly as u describe.

Since the motor sort of works u may be able to prolong its life a bit.

Take the motor out and over to ur bench. Very carefully pry the brass cover off and clean te hell out of all the crap in there. Probly a nice rust soup going on.

After its clean out a bit of anti seize on the moving parts and reassemble. Usually get another year out of them Atleast and back to a full speed window.

Also good to clean out the tracks and the inside of the tailgate. If the weather stripping is cracked replace.

The motor in my surf is a cleaned one that barely moved when I took it out.

They are not cheap new

I also had a seized up motor, I took it out, accidentally dropped it off my work bench and a ton of rust particles broke loose. Cleaned the hell out of it and its been working fine (from the key, not the switch) for the past few months.

I would suggest not taking it out to start with. You can lower the tailgate and trip the switch to think it is closed (see screwdriver). This will allow you to get to the guts with it all opened up and in a workable position. I stress though, have something in place to support the glass though or it will end up on the concrete.

Once you have it open loosen all the tracks a little and see if it frees it up and. The tracks may need to be adjusted/lubed a little to get it back to working more freely.
