4runner 2006 factory skid plate

In '05, SR5's and Limiteds have body-colored lower bumper panels. Only the Sport Edition had the silver panels. All models in 03-04 had the silver panel (except those with cladding and if you got Dorado Gold).
 
well, here it is...the much awaited photos of a 2006 front skid plate on a 2005 SE V8 (bought it from toyota and paid about $150)....took about 40 minutes to install. might have been a little faster too, if i had all the right tools. :)

FYI

Without some modifications, the skid plate will not fit with the T&H Bull Bar installed. It's not that there isn't enough room for it. It's the mounting brackets that currently prevent the installation. The T&H uses the same mounting points as the skid plate. So, I guess it's going to sit in my garage until the spring time when I have more time to think about it. If anyone has figured out a way to install it with the T&H Bull Bar.. LET ME KNOW.

Ohhh, C'mon, you can't let it sit that long.
Seriously, I'm considering getting the T&H bull bar or the Westin bar, but I'm sure they all mount to the same place that the skid plate mounts to. So, if you get it figured out keep us informed.
 
The sad part is when that plate is labeled for the previous gen Tacomas and Runners it's only $100 and even available for around $75 from a few places and the only diff is probably the connecting brackets.
Somebody should do some research and see if you 4th gens guys don't have to get raped by paying double for the same piece.

Haha, that can't be avoid and that's the fact of the world. Like when the 5th or 6th gen comes out, the 4th gen's part price will start to drop...

Yeah,that just the nature of the business but I was thinking you 4th gen guys could revise the connectors to work.

The skid plate I bought was for a Tacoma and fit the '96-'98 Runners fine but with the '99s "fatlip" bumper it sat under it so it looked goofy but my friend fabricated a couple of retangle brackets with the corresponding bolt holes and moved the plate 4" forward to perfectly hug the curve of the bumper and IMO looks better than the placement of the plate using the actual '02 Sport Runner's plate brackets which puts it lower and further out.

Yes and no...

The arms come with 06' 4R skid plate is quite difference to the Tacoma. IMO, it's a complex craft.

It's possible to DIY or have it home-made, but for sure lots of time and efforts must be invested. Just my opinion!
 
I'd have to see the '06 brackets and compare them to the '02 Runner's brackets and see the diffs but my brackets took about 10 minutes to make but my friend went the extra step and welded the nuts to the plate for better durability.
It might be easier than you think and I'm interested in hearing some ideas.

Sure I guess it's great if you could have it in production, it will definitely benifit to all who has 4th gen and like to have the skid plate. (and save $$$ too.... :D )

I already got mine... too bad~
 
Hey hawaiian_runner, any chance you could take some more of those pics of your skid plate in some better light. It looks like you have galactic grey with the silver bumper piece. My truck looks the same as yours and ive been contemplating getting the plate. but i dont know how it would look with the silver already there.
