Depending on where you go for inspection, you can "get away" with certain stuff. I had an exhaust leak with my old system but the dealer where I went to said that they would let it slide since it was only minor and not in immediate need of repair. But then again they said I wouldn't pass inspection because one of my fog lights was broken at the time, which really didn't make much sense to me, since not all cars have fog lights, and they technically don't have to be used? Random, but I got it all figured out eventually.

any light that is installed on a vehicle must work. the exception are fog/driving lights that work independently of the headlight switch. if they have their own switch and are on an isolated circuit they can't fail you for it.
 
For your interior LED's it depends on if you have climate control or not.

But here's a list for a 99 without climate control:

-1 #74 for keyring
-3 #24 for gauge cluster(get nice ones)
-1 #194 for Shifter(Automatic)
-1 #74 for glovebox
-Neo-wedge A or B or C for the Defroster, ETC buttons and others (may want to look it up in another thread)
-4 #DE3175 LED's for map lights and dome lights

The "Auto" on the windows are very complicated to replace. Also, your cigarette lighter bulb is hard to replace along with the ask tray/coin holder.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll pass my inspection with ease since the guy who owns the shop's wife works for my dad. :P

RevenEngine - I am not sure if I have climate control or not, how can I know if I have one or not? But yeah, you and everyone else is definitely helping me out with this LEDs stuff.
 
The LED swap can sound very complicated when you first try to tackle it but if you just take your time and do your research it isn't too bad. I remember I was completely overwhelmed when I first started looking at all the info but once I figured out what I was doing it's not too hard.

That list posted by RevengEngine is the correct list of bulbs needed for a '99. I would recommend www.superbrightleds.com to purchase the LEDs. When you're ready to start removing all the interior trim panels and swapping out the stock bulbs, shoot me a PM and I can give you a more detailed write-up on how to do it.

EDIT: What RevengEngine means by climate control is whether or not you have the automatic climate control. Do adjust the fan speed do you slide a lever from left to right?
 
Does the PNP kit blind other drivers?

I live overseas in a 3rd world country so I'm not worried about breaking any laws with my US spec 4Runner but I would definitely like a little more light since there are many areas without streetlights and the power fails pretty often.

$72 dollars seems pretty reasonable for increased light output with this PNP kit. I don't, however, want to blind oncoming drivers. They drive bad enough as it is.

So the question is, how bad is the light output for other drivers?

I feel you. I looked at Auto's site and I felt like the website was unprofessionally done and it seemed like a terrible company.

What I'm going to do is check out V-Leds and Superbrightleds' sites and see which one has the best price :P

You want 12 volt car bulbs. The component bulbs will just be parts and pieces for projects if you want those.

You're gonna find that the central dome light and the cargo dome light either require different bulbs, or you can bend the metal to fit. Just FYI.

Also, Autolumination is NOT that bad. They actually sell incandescent bulbs that fit as a #74 will. It's the best fitting way to go for the key ring and glove box. I've bought from them twice before.

Sylvania has an amazing site for bulb Replacement:

Use this for reference. Oh and your license plate and corner lights can be easily made to look clean by getting some #194 Led's.

For the dome light a lot of us are using the flexable led dome light from Ozinum. It's kinda pricey, but it's nice.

Rock Slide has mentioned another bulb that he believes is brighter than the Ozinum dome light. You might want to check that out.

At least half of the bulbs I bought from Autoilumination burnt out within 4 months, probably sooner.

i've had them for almost 2 years and have yet to be flashed or pulled over

None of my are burnt out yet, it's been a year. But it's all kind of iffy. Superbrightleds sent me one of their 3-led #74 bulbs and one of the leds didn't work so it's now a 2-led bulb. haha

Small soldered leds aren't going to be perfect, seLect, so maybe buy a few extra.

The main problem you will encounter is finding those #24 bulbs. I am pretty sure autolumination is the ONLY site I found that made them. Of course, you could shave down a #194 and make it fit. :bigok:

I'm thinking about changing my gauge cluster to a crisp white and possibly the same for my controls. I'm not sure though as my headunit is a vibrant blue.

If you have any questions, keep asking, Clemson and I seem to be particularly helpful. :p

Alright haha, I actually have a question. Since I decided to look at the dome light in my 4Runner, I noticed that there were a light bulb connected to the center of the panel and I took it off without ease. If I were to order a new dome light, I would have to completely unscrew the stock panel and replace it with the new dome light correct? Also, do domelights come with covers or would I be stuck with the stock cover?

Oh, I also have a vibrant blue.. sort of. I have a Alpine headunit with all blue and no other colors. I hope to find leds/domelights to match with the headunit. Only if someone found out how to get rid of the green clock.. :[

you can unplug your clock! use the headunit's clock! And no, you won't have to replace the dome light at all, just the bulb. The OEM housing will stay there.

EDIT: you will definitely want the OEM housing as it

A)looks better
B)scatters the light correctly so it'll hide the LED better

ohhh so you call it the OEM eh? i don't even know what OEM is and i wonder if I should know what it means ;o Alright word, I'll check out the blubs. I'm just hoping it'll be the right fit when I find it. :D
