4Runner '99 HIDS

i never had to power or ground anything....factory harness plugs into the ballast, ballast plugs into the bulbs...

are you sure that your headlights are ON and not just running on the DRLs? cause for some reason mine don't come on with the DRL, prob due to the lower wattage to the connector

Yeah, the stocks works if plugged in but the hids won't. :(
 
What's DRLs? I tried turning on the headlights without starting the car AND I tried turning the headlights on when the car was turned on as well. Any ideas before I take this baby to the shop tomorrow?

To be honest, I didn't do much with the instructions. It was very hard for me to understand the instructions because it was terribly written. Their first language was definitely not English that's for sure, maybe 2nd or 3rd.

Unfortunately my mom's camera just won't show the pictures on the memory card.. another thing to make me feel sad. What could go wrong now :(

I've been pulled over for blue LED license plate lights. The first day I had them in. I even downloaded the TX Motor Laws and read through all 80 pages!

if i was close, i'd come by and help you out...theres not much i can do from here though...
 
If in fact everything is wired properly as you say, it could just be that a bulb and/or ballast is faulty. You're gonna have that issue w/ aftermarket kits. (I've been thru plenty of them myself w/ hid aux lights.)

However, the above typically applies only if one bulb is not working....yet you said both bulbs are not working correct? In that case, you probably do have a wiring issue.

What year is your 4Runner again? B/c if you have DRLs (daytime running lights) you'll need to disable them for your HIDs to work properly.

I an pretty sure that I don't have drls bc my lights doesn't run during daylight unless I turn it on.

Ok, in that case, it's either a wiring issue or faulty bulb and/or ballast.

Since taking photos is not an option, can you describe how you wired up your new HIDs? Maybe we can help you if they are wired up incorrectly.

Also, when you turn them ON, do the HID bulbs themselves flicker for a second then go out? Or do they just not come on period?

I can't remember how I wired it. I just wired the stuff along the hood (on the sides). Also for the hids, they just won't turn on at all. But the lights inside the orange area on the side of the main headlights turns on once I've enabled the headlights so pretty much the lights on the side works but not the new HIDS. Both stock bulbs works when I plug it in and HID's won't.

To add to what Clemson asked, did your kit come w/ a pair of ballasts or was it just the bulbs?

If ballasts were included, how did you wire them in?

If your ballasts are not wired in properly, your HID bulbs will not operate at all.

I can't remember how I wired them in, I had a friend help me. But I went to the tint shop today to get my windows tinted and they said I already had 20% all around.. so I must have ordered some 20% back in Feb. I thought I got the 50% but they said I didn't. I asked them to be sure and they used the tint meter and it said 20%. But anyways, the guy said I had a faulty ballast and I asked him if he was sure and he said did your HID lights turn on? and I said no. So I will wait until Monday to have my mechanic guy doubelecheck everything.

Today was pretty depressing, I worked from 3 to close and I had to walk home and leave my truck in the public. I tried having my brother come and switch cars but he just refused to. So yeah, I'm really depressed / angry about this whole thing. :|
 
switch back to your normal headlights for now. the kit must be faulty. dont get so worked up over it though.

When you figure out what went wrong, re-connect it all and try again

Yeah, I'm going to do that later. Just disappointed though! I know I shouldn't get all worked up but :P Now I have to walk back to my workplace where I left my truck and hope that my 4Runner was untouched (may have been towed or vandalized but it's in a good area though, upperclassish)
 
That makes sense if it's a faulty ballast. Like I said before, that's the risk you run buying aftermarket HID kits. I should know, I've been thru 3-4 bad ballasts on aftermarket HID kits (for other projects of mine, not my headlights). The different sellers I've purchased these kits from before have always come thru for me (they've sent replacements out immediately), but it took a week or so, not a day or two. I've also had to send plenty of emails to a few of these sellers to convince them it was a faulty ballast and not my own wiring causing the bulbs not to work.

In my own personal experience w/ aftermarket HID kits, about 1 in every 3 ballasts are faulty when tested and 1 in every 4 bulbs are faulty when tested. That's why it's very good idea to do a "mock install" with any HID kit, before you do a complete install. This will allow you to test all of your HID components w/ ease before spending a lot of time on the final install. You'll learn as you go though. :)

I'd suggest going back to your stock bulbs until you can get a new ballast. No telling how long that will take...
