4Runner/Audio Electronics Rookie!

Thank you in advance to anybody that can answer some of my questions. Like the subject says, I'm new to all this stuff.

I'm trying to get a in dash NAV/DVD unit put into my '08 4Runner Limited with the JBL sys. with the 6 Disc changer.

I've been looking at the Kenwood 7120 or 8120/Pioneer AVIC F Series, and am still open to suggestions.

First Q is, what part do I need to utilize the JBL amp and sub. I've read on here about the Scosche JBL adapter and the Metra version (TYTO-01). I'm not getting much help at the local retail stores on this subject.

Second, if I have the bluetooth adapter installed or with the unit; will it only work for my phone or would I be able to pair it with my wife's as well?

Hey rick, getting a similar HU. Im getting the Kenwood DDX712 so that I can upgrade to NAV at a later date...doing a full install tomorrow.....

go to crutchfield, enter your vehicle and they will show you which harness you need to utilize the stock JBL system

remember u lose the 6 cd changer with this...let me know

Thanks for the info. Crutchfield looks like it will be a lot of help. Now to decide on the headunit. I'm definetly going to look for something with Navigation.

Why would you tell someone not to buy from a legitimate online dealer? They are perfect for DIY people with little experience considering they send step by step instructions.

I recommend them if you plan on doing it yourself!

Stick with Kenwood either the 8120 or the 7120....only the 7xxx doesnt have bluetooth built in


Kenwoods have great equalizers so at a later date if your in the mood for a stereo change, the sound quality will be great....check out my thread"look what i ordered today"

I don't like to overpay, but I like buying from somewhere that I know is a quality company and aren't sending me a refurbished or B stock item. It's obvious when an online company is legit or not... if they are legit they can only advertise a certain price, called MAP (minimum advertised price). Crutchfield lists MAP, not MSRP on everything they sell. Personally everything I get I buy locally... because if something goes wrong I can have it swapped the same day whereas anywhere online it could take weeks.

I'm not knocking them. I know they are a good company that has been around for many years. Hell, I even bought my HU from them.

In my experiences there are many other great sites to buy from that are normally cheaper.

To the OP, it's your decision. Do what you feel is right.
