4Runner CV Shafts - Will this work?

What they are saying, though, is that the 4runner already has that same 6 ball outer joint

Exactly, and the inner has to be able to move in and out like a slip yolk. The outer doesn't slide.

If it works or there is something ecial about tundra cv's then this will be cool. Good luck with your project

Like to see what happens with this idea. Looks good "on paper". I've never had a problem with the inner joint, just the outers. That's what u get with 3.5" lift. Boots tear, killing CV's, ball joints $hit out and now I want 35's! Only gonna make it worse. Of course now I've learned in the past year that my Toyota is NOT invincible. I'd just like to find an "indestructible' axle and go with Camburg UCL's.

Recently I went on a trip and my rear E-locker would not engage. Still I tried to make it up the nasty sandy off camber hill. The front driver's was over a foot off the ground and when it hit solid at the top, I was spinning and it popped and left the shaft broke off in the diff (GSP Axle, Advance Auto). Drove 10mi home but wasn't a quick fix in the least.

Is there an axle out there that will take this abuse?

I think that because the wheel was off the ground, it was in full arc and bound up the joint.

I can tell my napa's start to get a little funky at full droop.

And there is nothing that will hold up to a tire spinning fast in the air then hitting the ground and breaking. Thats how people break even fancy axles like a d60 or rockwells.

Honestly im glad my cv's break when they do. With the front locker its nice to have something break before the diff decides to break

:iagree: It was an all around dumb move on my part. I like to think of the CV's as "fuses" between the tires and diff. Much rather break a CV joint than strip gears out.

Can't wait to see the outcome of this hybrid axle.

Jason (jberry813) is using Tundra axles on his LT setup. I don't see why not, but I'd imagine you'd have to be LT to accommodate the extra length of the Tundra CV.

Bad news. It will not work. I could not take the sequoia inner cv and mount it to the 4runner shaft. The 4runner shaft splines are to much bigger.

It just won't work.

The sequoia -Tundra shaft will fit the 4runner's differential but it won't fit on to the half shaft.

Too bad

Back from the dead.

I see you've done the manual hub conversion prior to this.
Have you tried to see if the tundra/sequoia inner cv might swap over to the taco shaft?

I've heard that the taco axles don't really tend to break in the diff, meaning their weak point is further outward. Do they (taco axles) have better articulation at full droop compared to the 4 runner, thus negating any benefit that the tundra/sequoia cv inner cv might provide?

I have problems with my cv axles too.

Tired with this, I began to find a alternative to solve this problem.

Here in Brazil we found a solution! It's easy and you can do too!

To eliminate your problem forever, you have to buy TRAIL GEAR Longfield™ 30-Spline 4340 Chromoly Super Set + 3. Your IFS system will be OEM.

OK! I know that you can say me: "But our 4Runners are 27 splines"!

So, how we say here in Brazil here is "the jump of the cat": In one side will be 27 splines, as product as sold! In the other side, it came 30 splines. Thus, this side you need to arrange for a turner do 27 stretch marks as in the original, eliminating those 30 who came.

Could understand?

After this modification has a 4Runner (here called Hilux) here walking tires 40 "and still is for two years without breaking.

Another tip that the owner of this car gave me was that the hoods must clothe them with duct tape, so that they never tear and prevent dirt from entering the grease, which increases the risk of breakage!

Sorry my mistakes!

Thanks and I think that it can help you!

So you're saying that you purchased TRAIL GEAR Longfield™ 30-Spline 4340 Chromoly Super Set + 3 (for what vehicle appliation?), then had someone convert/machine the 30-splined end to 27-splines?
