Oh, man I am not happy, was going to pick up my new TP Friday but the dealership played around and the truck was sold from under me. Was a silver TP, basic, floor mats and connect kit, nothing else..... like I wanted and looked for.

I am also finding out the KBB.com FMV is a bunch of crap, or these guys are not dealing right now. I am so mad, I started looking at Tundras. This was going to be my first 4RNR, 4th Toyota. He offered to order me a '16, told him no

But I am not giving up....

Try Truecar.com

I used them when I purchased my T4R and got a decent price. Around here Trail Editions are impossible to find. Ironically my dealer had a brand new TRD PRO on the showroom floor.

You're looking for a Trail Premium? What price point are you looking for?

also it won't hurt to give Toyota corporate a call and let them know about your experience.

I called the above phone number. I let toyota corporate know how my dealer try to screw me about the 0.9% financing. I went in buying a 2015 4runner LE. This was Fremont Toyota. The business manager who's job is try to upsell you on things said he would give me the 0.9% financing. I was skeptical, I had originally arranged through a credit union a 1.9% for 60months. The credit union was a partner for my company I work for. As I'm new to USA, I have no credit history in USA. So I pre-arranged everything. The Biz manager said he wanted to give me the 0.9% toyota corporate financing deal on my 2015. I knew full well it was for 2014s only. Nevertheless he processed my sale with my vin number my 2015 model year on all the legal docs.

5 days later I was on vacation in Canada and he tried to renag on the deal and he even went to all the banks to get me some financing, but I was declined for all since I have no credit history. I was super pissed. I told him, you have your signature on the docs, I have my signatures on the docs, the VIN # is referenced. The model year and 4runner is clearly referenced. He said he can't let the deal go through. I said tough shit, the docs are signed and I hung up. He kept calling.

I gave the above number a call (Toyota corporate). I explained to them what happened. Next day I get a personal phone call from the dealer owner, corporate Toyota as well and apologized for the trouble. Said I was all good to go, no need to come back or anything. I have never been back to Fremont Toyota in California.

I had a dealer do that to me on a 15 4Runner Limited. We had agreed on a price and I placed a deposit on it, then I guess the dealer got a better offer and sold it to someone else as soon as it arrived on the lot. I was fairly mad at that point, then they didn't want to return my deposit. I finally got the deposit back and worked with another dealer who was a little more honest.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. A few things:

1) Leave scathing reviews about the dealership on everything you can find - Yelp, Google, DealerRater etc. People do look at those sites to decide. If your review can convince just one person to not shop there, I think that's a small victory for yourself. Not sure where you live in LA, but maybe people will be willing to drive a little further to avoid those d-bags.

2) Here's a little tip for you regarding FMV - FMV is what people are willing to pay for it, NOT what KBB says or the dealer's black book. If you want to know what people are paying, you need to make friends with a person in the car biz and get their username/pw to the Mannheim auction and look up your VIN. It'll show you how much similar makes/models/mileage etc are being sold at auction for and that can give you an idea of trade value. I've also had tons of luck with Edmunds.com. That site has given me lots of info on invoice cost etc.

3) Others have mentioned Truecar, but I've also had luck with autotrader and cars.com.

definitely call Toyota corporate explain what happened. you will be surprised how quickly things can happen

Maybe I'm playing devil's advocate but, unless there was a deposit down (like Drew1122 's scenario) I don't see what obligation a dealership has to hold a vehicle for someone who may just back out? Believe me I understand customer service, but at the end of the day if someone comes in ready to buy and there's no arrangement in place with someone else, it's-first come, first-served.

To the OP, don't worry, there will be others. I lost out on a 2010 w/ 100k miles in Dallas (~4 hrs away) that I was ready to drive up and buy. I was bothered, but settled back down, did some more research, and ended up picking up a '15 Trail with exactly what I wanted + a few misc options (which I had the dealer take off the price). Good luck on your hunt!

This happened to me 3 times in WA and OR. Even after giving my CC# for deposit. Then they start in with the 'just try a tacoma, or just try a T4R limited, they are the same exact thing!' BS.

It got to a point that I was looking every morning at all the dealer websites for 350 miles around me. When a TEP pop'd up I called into work and drove down 15 min later. When I arrived there was already someone else looking at it in the shop!

The other option is to order one from factory, but that can take months.

My only advice is to be open minded when it comes to colors.

Bummer.

FWIW: New 2015 Toyota 4Runner Trail $36,883 - VIN: JTEBU5JRXF5271386 at Toyota of Bozeman - New and Used Toyota and Scion Dealer Serving Bozeman, MT

Silver base Trail with KDSS for $36,883. Long drive home though. If nothing else - use it as a bargaining point. I like to pimp my friend's dealership, but they really do have as good of advertised prices as I've seen anywhere. And that price plus $200 is what you pay OTD. No games.

Lexus is moving to a no negotiation pricing policy - ie dealers will be prohibited from negotiating price, service, or terms on all new and used Lexus vehicles. Probably won't be long before Toyota goes the same route.

Wait a minute ... did you get a verbal agreement, or did you put it down in writing and put some money down?

If I was in their shoes, and one guy says he wants to buy, but no money, and another guy comes in with money, I would sell it to the second guy. Money talks, bullshit walks. Butts in seats.

Did they offer you the SAME deal on a 2016 4Runner TEP? I would hit that. Its not that far off that the 2016's will show up. Or fudge it, go back and ask them for the same deal on the 16, the worst they can say is no and you walk out and you are out maybe 45 minutes.

Sorry to hear, although businesses in Delaware always had a bad taste for me. Too high interest rates, more interest in the quick sale than customer service.

I had great luck using Cars.com to find the vehicle and then dealt directly with the dealership for the sale. I had mine shipped to Oklahoma from Ressler Toyota way up in Montana. Shipping cost was as much as it would have taken to fly up there and drive it back, and didn't have to put miles on it. Good Luck!

True car, KBB, Cars.com don't actually publish the prices at which these vehicles get sold...as someone else said earlier, those prices are kept secret so the dealer can maintain some bargaining power with future customers.

If you're not in a rush, do what I did. Keep your eye on autotrader to see how the prices are trending for your make/model/options, ect.

Call around to a few dealers to ask them for the bottom-line pricing, or meet them in person if they won't give it over the phone.

Then wait for the right time to buy: winter season right after Xmas is usually a very good time (dealers are getting new model year inventory and have to clear out the old stuff from the lot, and consumer buying is usually at an all time low).

You can usually get $1-$2k below their asking price at that point (and be well below what KBB or other websites list as FMV).

I am really nervous that this may happen to me. I have my deposit down and I am waiting for delivery. The price I was quoted was a really great deal and I have a feeling that when I finally show up to take delivery that they will not honor the price.
They will probably think because I have waited 50+ days that I will just accept whatever upsell or price they decide at that time.
However, I will NOT play that game. My hard earned money is just that, I sacrifice quite a bit to have the things that I want, messing with my money is similar to messing with my family.

When I bought they had to locate. Negotiated price etc., took about an hour, and right when I was getting ready to sign, was told that particular one sold. They brought printouts of two others and I picked one I wanted - LE, acc. were different by one item - and I had it in my driveway in 9 days. First person with money gets the vehicle.
