4Runner Deal Fell Through

Purchase Agreement

When I flew to NC and bought a vehicle from Rice Toyota (Yes, it was that great of a deal!), I had the salesman sign a purchase agreement. This way I had a leg to stand on if the vehicle was not there or if they tried changing the price on me. Luckily, they were wonderful to work with and after I landed it was just filling out the paperwork and driving it home. Having this filled out and signed is the closest I could come to a binding legal contract (I'm not a lawyer), so if things went south I would have documented evidence supporting my claims. I used this form:

I also did most of my negotiations over email and what happened over the phone, such as quotes, I had them email me saying the same things explicitly. You time is valuable and your money hard earned, there's no reason why you should get richarded around with nonsense games.

Ha not right now you don't. I wouldn't go near that city if you paid me these days

Oh, man I am not happy, was going to pick up my new TP Friday but the dealership played around and the truck was sold from under me. Was a silver TP, basic, floor mats and connect kit, nothing else..... like I wanted and looked for.

I am also finding out the KBB.com FMV is a bunch of crap, or these guys are not dealing right now. I am so mad, I started looking at Tundras. This was going to be my first 4RNR, 4th Toyota. He offered to order me a '16, told him no

But I am not giving up....

Update: there was a verbal, he was going to get the truck, asked for a deposit, gave him a CC, it was never charged...

So I have looked around, went to Truecar, got three replies from dealers in the area, and I am working on a deal now, will know more in the morning.

Now I did find out something, I am sure you all know. Just because a dealer has a truck listed as available, that does not mean he can get it. They have to swap vehicles. Now if that truck is in Houston, you will get a 4Runner with 400 miles, driven by who knows...

I am looking for a base TP, no running boards, no remote start, no options, will do floor mats, but that is it. Most of the dealers around here add on N2 in the tires, paint sealant for $500, window tint for $400....I don't want any of that crap.

Hope I can get good news tomorrow.

Shop the Baltimore price you like around. The salesman doesn't know that you won't actually go that far for a deal or not. When you shop a price around and there are additional features, stand firm saying you don't want those and that you won't pay for them.

I managed to get all the "extras" removed from the price, but not the vehicle. It's going to be hard to find something without all the extra stuff added, unless you happen to walk onto a lot while a vehicle is still waiting to be touched. By the time the dealer takes pictures, it usually has already gone through dealer add ons. If it's a new listing with no pictures yet, you may get lucky and catch it before it gets the add ons.

I ran into a lot of problems with my local Toyota dealership so I got on Google Maps and literally went in every direction looking at Toyota dealerships and their inventory.

I found my TEP at a dealership 6+ hours away. I haggled for a couple days via email and phone until we finally came to an agreement.

FWIW, the truck did not show up on any online search. I had to manually look at their online inventory to find it.

The Toyota dealers in this state are pretty good about advertising on cars.com they will often put up an ad the second it comes off the truck.

PM replied.

PL had to send a driver (older employee) to get mine from Monroe, LA.
They traded one another dealer had for mine.
They assured me, that he would drive the limit. (That's why they send him!)
I didn't have an issue with that.
It arrived in pristine condition.
