Nice write up, I'm going with the adapter for the mirror power listed on page 1 of this thread and a dashcam with internal battery for parking mode. I'm in dash cam hell right now trying to decide..looking at Lifechaser Dual Dash Cam 4K+1080P Front and Rear Car Camera 3840x2160P 8MP CMOS, WiFi,
When I was researching dashcams, consensus was that cameras with internal batteries were a no-no because of possible overheating during summer months, cameras with capacitors were the ones to go; you could always get a battery pack, store it in a place cooler than the windshield(glovebox) and use it as a power source when the car is off.
I ended up with a Viofo A119v3, so far so good, I didn't connect it through a hardwire kit, or battery pack, so no parking mode at the moment. I used DashCamTalk and its forum for information as well as youtube comparison videos. Good luck hunting.

Thanks for the feed back, I suspected the battery option was a possible issue as so many don't have that feature. I'm adding the Viofo to my list I like that its low profile and doesn't use a suction cup to mount it.

According to PK6A333HT1 - Dash Camera - Windshield Mount - Black - Genuine Toyota Accessory it's a Full HD camera with 117° field of view, going for $350, that is way to expensive.
I wonder if they are just branding someone else's camera and passing it for a Toyota, I would also be nice to know how effective their incident detection system is, and the quality of daylight/nighttime recording.
Lastly, including only an 8 GB SD Card is sort of a joke at that price, but whatever.

FYI, dash cams with batteries are a bad idea if you leave them mounted all the time. Lithium batteries are not designed for high temp and will swell up and vent gasses (sometimes catch fire) if left in vehicles. I had a Bluetooth adapter on a visor in the California sun once and the battery expanded so much it cracked open the plastic case.
I will Always use capacitor dash cams and if I want motion I’ll hard wire it.
I just set up Nexar cameras in my 4runner and my wife’s van. They’re fairly inexpensive and seem to work well. It’s not hard to route the wire so you don’t see it either. Only part you can see on the 4runner is where I ran it into the center console. I got the family deal so I have an extra I’d be willing to part with that’s never been opened for a good price.

I picked up the Thinkware Q800Pro Dual and the OBD power connector, so will need to run power down the A-pillar. I did remove the one nut behind the SRS plastic plug, and the weatherstripping, loosened the A-pillar trim but did not remove yet, looking for any cautions regarding air bag - presumably the sensors are elsewhere?

Installed this a couple weeks ago and works fine. Not as simple as the"plug and play" Tacoma one, but still fairly easy. Took about 20 minutes to install, purely due to my unfamiliarity with the overhead console assembly. Would probably take 10 minutes if I had to do it again.
For those interested, the max power specs allow for powering a GoPro as well as most dash cams.

i intend to hardwire it. i was reading the manual and it seems to be very simple to operate. you can wirelessly transfer the video and there's a toyota app you can use too for your smartphone.

Simple plug and play if you have an autodimming rear mirror.

2020+ autodimming rearview is not plug and play. You have to remove the overhead console if you don't want to plug into the built-in USBs.
