Dude I'd still be buying new 3rd gens if they were kept in production. Or an FJ40. There are enough well kept 5th gens around today I'll have an endless supply of used ones for the next 20 years at least. 100+k miles doesn't scare me. The gov will ban ICEs before then probably, or gas will be $15/ga and somebody will come out with some sort of EV retrofit I hope.
4runners are Old School Cool. Look at Ford bringing back the Bronco for example. People appreciate old school simplicity and retro vibes. There is a project thread in the 3rd gen section of someone who bought a 70s series I think it was, from Japan now that they are hitting the 25 year import age allowance. There's some interesting stuff available for import soon (RHD though).

Probably one of the bugmen mad that new 4runners can't drive themselves while he plays Nintendo Switch and complains on Reddit at 70mph about how Toyota won't address his technology needs
Jokes aside this "issue" is part of Toyota's Kaizen design philosophy of continual (and inherently slow) improvement. Which essentially translates to "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Kaizen - Wikipedia

I mean you can look around and find what I'm talking about rather easily... You asked and I figured I'd give you a genuine response rather than just telling you to look for yourself.
Thanks. I appreciate the response. As I said, I've had loads of apple products and haven't had much in the way of hardware issues and they've always been taken care of when I had them.
I recently had an issue with mac os not syncing with iOS. Ended up being b/c of the upgrade path forking up the file system when Apple went to the new chip architecture (mines a 2018 intel) so I had to wipe and reinstall my laptop. Apple sent me a new pair of airpod pros for my trouble. This is all anecdotal tho.
I shouldn't have to spend an extra 10k to make the truck drive worth a damn in the mountains. And I don't really think that would solve the problem. I am really suspect of their claim of 355 ft/lb.
As for the transmission, it just doesn't have enough gears. there should be something between 3rd and 4th. I spend the entire drive to the mtns revving the hell out of it in 3rd gear just to have enough response. And then you have offroaders asking for a granny gear so then we're at the need for an 8 spd.

Ive read this thread over about 50 times and I cant understand what the 'eff you are talking about. Ive never met anyone who hated me because I drove a 4Runner or any other vehicle for that matter.
The 4Runner is a tin box with a 1998 technology drive train. Toyota is laughing all the way to the bank every time someone buys one. They have invested almost nothing FOR YEARS AND YEARS and people keep buying them. Gravey train, cash cow, what every you want to call it
I bought mine since I needed an SUV (no more pick ups for me) and the 179 deduction and this was one of the best options for that. They have great resale so thats something to look forward to when I sell it 10 years from now.

^This by a mile. The 4Runner is so outclassed in terms of drivetrain tech and mpg enhancing systems. Same goes for creature comforts features. None of this stuff is super unreliable either as Toyota has been using it in their products for over a decade.
Toyota is a very conservative company and reliability has been their brand selling point. It's typical buyer is just as conservative with a primary focus on reliability.
Most late model Toyotas are the definition of "appliance" with a handful of exceptions like it's body on frame trucks/SUVs, the GR86 (which is a collective effort with Subaru) and the Supra (almost entirely BMW).
My wife wanted a Toyota truck because she adored her 1987 Toyota 4x4 she had back in the late 1990s during college and she wanted an easy way to transport her paddleboard all the while wanting more interior space for the kids and all our camping gear. The 4Runner was a perfect fit plus one of the best looking true trucks on the market.
We love it and my wife has never gotten nothing but compliments about it. There are lots of folks that say to her that they formerly had a 4Runner and always regretted selling it.

After thinking about this for awhile the OP should have used the phase “…be hate’n on us” or as in the Urban Dictionary used the word “hater” (ex: The haters hate us ‘cause they ain’t us) instead of “hate us” as he did, to make the point. Thats where the confusion came from. If you are going to use that type of English at least learn how to use it correctly.
