99.9% of the time we were tied to the dock at the marina. I was about 6 years old.
We started using fishing poles. Not enough room, we kept hitting each other.
By the next year we used Pepsi bottles, the long neck bottles (this was around 1967), with about 2 feet of line. Perfect for between the boat and dock.
After many years the bluegill & perch knew where the free food was. The cost was an occasional hook in the mouth. It got to the point that we didn't bait the hooks anymore.
I was around 12-13 years old sitting on the deck eating a sandwich with my legs in the water, watching the fish eat the crumbs and pick at the growing hair on my legs (ah, adolescence). I pur my arm in the water and they began investigating that. While one was in my hand I gently held it then let it go. Then another and another. Later I could lift them out of the water all the time. Maybe I became an amusement park ride for them.
I'd go snorkeling and a bunch would follow me around.
This was during the week. Weekends were different. Weekends meant campers, skiers. Girls.
