4Runner Heaven

I picked up a '04 4Runner Sport V6 (galactic gray metallic) last month after having my engine replaced in my '99 Isuzu Trooper 4WD with just over 56K miles.

Although I loved my Trooper and the dealer replaced the engine free, after doing some research on the web, there is apparently some design issues with the Trooper's 3.5L V6 that causes the #1 bearing to spin and trash the engine (I beleive it is something to do with not enough oil drains from around the pistons causing them to plug and use excessive oil). I had the oil changed every 3-5K miles and had all scheduled maintainence so it was definately not due to neglect. From the research I did, I don't think this is a common occurence, especially with so few miles, but I did not feel comfortable knowing the engine was replaced with the same type engine so I traded it in on the 4Runner. Truth be told, if Isuzu would have had a comparable vehicle to the 4Runner, I probably would have bought another Isuzu as they did take good care of me, but d***, is that 4Runner nice.

I've been lurking here for a couple months and this site has been a great resource so I just wanted to thank everyone for such a useful forum. I am now a Toyota convert.

Welcome to the board! That is a good looking truck. I have no doubt you ill forget about your old Trooper. Hopefully your local Toyota dealership will be as helpfull as your Isuzu dealership.

thanks

Thanks, MOMO.75. Trooper, what Trooper? Hopefully the Toyota dealership will never have to take care of me like that. :D

nice truck. Like the color a lot. Picked the same one. It is so great because it hardly ever looks dirty.

Welcome to the forum Lee - let's all hope your 4Runner's engine makes it to 256K miles

BTW, if I'm not mistaken doesn't Isuzu have some sort of crazy 10 year warranty or something - I seem to remember seeing something like that in their ads for the past several years. I'm guessing that's why they were willing to replace your '99 Isuzu's engine with 56K miles :dunno:

Thanks, all. I think the 10-year/100K mile powertrain warrranty started in 2000. My 1999 had a 5-year/60K mile which I was still covered under for 4K miles and about 4 months. It picked a good time to go out, I must admit. The dealer said if it would have happened out of warranty, it would have been around $5-7K out of pocket. Not sure what I would have done at that point.

Hey, we're twins! I had almost forgotten what my truck would look like when it's clean. :D

Great choice! Enjoy your 4Runner.

Thanks Mark and Lunchbox. Color was between the silver and the gray, but since my Trooper was silver, I decided to try something a little different.

Lunchbox, where do you live in Texas?
