I need some advice since I'm a noobie to cold climates. My Florida born runner has never seen winter before and now I'm living in Denver. It has been very cold in the past few weeks and I've experienced two specific things that I have never noticed before. I will preface by saying, that there is NO vibrations in the car, steering wheel, and is generally running great, no alarm bells there.
First issue...
After driving, walking to the front of the vehicle, I smell burning rubber type smell. I pulled the tire off, and peered through to the engine and I do see minor leakage through the valve cover gasket. Could this be the cause of this smell. I do not smell in the car, or through the heater.
Second issue...
The last couple days I noticed, a popping, rattling, sound on the driver side under my feet, almost sounds like something loose. Definately worse when hitting bumps and potholes, and even heard a boom, last night when I hit this dip near my house at cruising speed. I pulled the tire today, banged the hammer about the components and tire, and found nothing loose or any rattling from the ball joint, control arms, etc, and bushings all look ok. Could not reproduce any noise. No leaking from the the stock shocks, and not missing or loose parts, possibly ruling that out. And also checked exhaust heat shield for rattle. Nothing. Went for a drive and the noises were there...stopped, for some reason, decided to put in 4wd Low, sound went away. Back into 4wd High, sound has not returned. Parked, then returned to the car for another drive 30 minutes later, the sound has not returned. :redbrick: Confused.
Any help would be appreciated.
