Update....
As I knew all along, its totaled. Insurance isn't screwing me too bad ($7500), but it was still worth more than that to me. I was due for a timing belt and needed to replace the valve cover gaskets, so it saves me some work. Unfortunately since the insurance company has an exclusive contract with Copart, I'm unable to buy it back or really get anything off it, but I did take my floor mats, rear mat, and K&N filter, my basket was temporarily on my wife's van, and my SLA battery was on loan to my trolling motor, so all's not lost.
On a positive note, I bought a 2007 V6 RWD today. Hopefully it'll mean as much to me and be as reliable as my 3rd gen.

WOW, $7500. Sounds like a good deal to me considering I just picked mine up for $4k. Granted, it has 30k more miles but the body is perfect and everything, including the locker & power antenna , work great.
You didn't happen to take a picture of the jeep after it hit you, did you. I would like to see what happened to it.

That doesn't matter, I just went through this last month. Got mine back for $375 from the other guys insurance company.
In this case, apparently it does. So, what did you get out of the wreck in the way of a payment from the other guy's insurance?
$7500 seem really high considering KKB values it at less than $4k trade-in/$4.500 private party.

This has to be my biggest fear for my Runner right now.
Yeah, they must have people lined up for parts from that model or something. I would normally say try and buy it back and fix it up, but for $7500 I'd take the money and run. I would expect them to offer around $4k and you'd be lucky to talk them up to $5k or so.

I think it depends on the area. Here in Oregon you can get runners for 4-5k no problem but they all have high miles. If you want a lower mileage (170k or below) then the price jumps from 7500 and up. I just settled on buying my totalled 4runner back last month and I got 13k for replacement. Seems high but that doesn't cover the money I had into it. Thankfully I can pull most of the stuff off and reuse. They key is finding high priced comparables which with these 4runners is not hard!

NEVER take first offer... I fought with insurance and got an extra 50% over their first offer.
Besides, they can't "just take your vehicle" - it might be an exclusive contract with copart, but that's after your first right of refusal to buy it back.

Sorry for the loss. I have to agree with everyone else with being able to buy back the car. I would definitely look into that. I'm curious who you're insurance is through. On a side note.... I always knew jeep owners were jealous of Toyota owners.... I just never thought they'd stoop to this level :bolt:
