You'll want to Google Georgia Code Annotated 40-3-2(11) to review Georgia's total loss formula (I think you're from Georgia, correct?).

If it is declared a total loss, most insurance companies only charge you the "estimated" value when auctioned at a salvage yard (some vehicles, like a 4runner, obviously get a higher value). If the salvage value is high, that means your damage award is reduced. [Actual Cash Value (ACV) - Salvage Value = your payment]

Crashes suck, but excellent use of a dash cam (very wise in these days).

OP, watching that video was like watching someone else get kicked in the balls. I hope this somehow works out for the better for ya. Its a true shame to see clean trucks like yours get crunched. Far too many are already in such terrible shape from neglect.

If they had STAYED on the gas, they would have either completed the drift, or spun out. Steering correction + letting OFF of the gas is what led to that collision. Most people panic and let go of the gas/stomp the brake. If she would have stayed in the throttle, that accident *may* have been avoided...

Here's what I run:

My dashcam. It's very simple to hook up, dead reliable, and has tons (and I mean TONS) of attachments to use it in every situation. Additionally, it has the exact same form factor as a GoPro (and very similar image quality) so all of the attachments are interchangeable. The LCD screen on the back is very handy to preview accidents at the scene.


Here's a full walkthrough of the camera:

Now, you could use a cigarette lighter to power it, and that'll work perfectly fine. Or, you could do what I do, and hardwire the cigarette lighter to an available fuse spot under the dash. Then, simply hide the wire inside the headliner and run it up to the camera. Both are perfectly acceptable.

I use this exact cam to capture action footage at the daytona jetski freeride. Also use it to record white water experiences. It honestly never occured to me to use it for a dashcam.

Only advise i will add is do NOT use the sj4000 mounts for anything surf/action related. Just buy an assortment of genuine go pro mounts they are the same style but use 3m adhesives.
