4Runner photo game

Next challenge: Your 4Runner next to a smoke stack. Older and/or interesting is better but beggars can’t be choosers.

I was gonna take a day trip and get the scenic river challenge yesterday or today, but you beat me to it with the reset!

So today I got the smokestack(s). Bear in mind that the industrial culture here on the northwest coast is nothing like it is / was in the midwest or east. Back home in Ohio I could have thrown a rock and hit 5 super-cool abandoned factories with those classic brick smokestacks rising up to the sky. Here, that sort of industry never existed. Instead, we have / had logging, and all the pictured smokestacks are remnants of that industry. Some are still in use. I believe all are designed to vent the furnaces that incinerate the wood scrap or sawdust that isn't used in any other product. The first one is a really old version of that - basically a furnace and a chimney all in one - from a small lumbermill and the second and third are more modern, bigger versions.

Ha! I think you killed the smoke stack challenge.:thumb: I've never seen one like the top picture.

As for the railroad challenge, I will give the others a day or two but Knoxville is covered in railroad tracks. Looking out my window there are railroad bridges, tracks by the river, and a depot across the river with an old steam locomotive. There's a rail yard with multiple switching lines less than a mile from here.

Hey [MENTION=132734]MeefZah[/MENTION], it’s been a while since I’ve seen one, but my hometown on the east coast had several lumber mills with scrap burning smokestack thingies like you photoed. As a kid they always reminded me of badminton shuttlecocks.

^ yeah, that's the classic smokestack I was thinking of.

Funny story, this photo nerd I knew back home was flying a drone (at that time, a real unusual thing for someone to own, and pretty pricey too) over an abandoned clay pipe factory to get some neat aerial pics. The factory had a probably 150' brick smokestack. So nerd flies over the smokestack just as a bird comes flying straight up out of it. Bird hits drone, drone falls into the smokestack, never to be recovered. Bird apparently unscathed. Nerd inconsolable.

Nice, yes mine is a Labradoodle, Cosmo is his name and we walk up to the brewery a couple times a week.

Went to Costco for a normal paper product restocking run. It was nuckin futz with people buying out all the TP they could get their hands on.
I did manage to score some, plus some supplies to weather the virus apocalypse. Hmmm, maybe should have bought more beer...

Yeah, I never go to Costco because I find it way to stressful in normal times. But I was in Walmart today and it was also insane. Props on the Lagunitas! I’m a huge fan. And I have a case or two of limited releases stashed away in addition to my fridge.

I used to get to go to Lagunitas,Petaluma almost every year but it's been about two years now. I do get to go to their Chicago brewery pretty often though.

I love those old "teepee" burners! I lived near Eureka for a couple years as a kid, in 1964-65. Back then I would see them all over the place and still in use.
