Edit, not that it matters to me, there's none west of Wisconsin apparently

I have a soft spot for the MP barns also. My older sister taught me to read at an early age; about 4 years old. My mother got a big kick when once on a drive we passed a barn and I loudly declared: “Chew Mailpouch Tobacco, treat yourself to the best!”

I figured this challenge was a long shot, but if someone can spot and photo a barn with any tobacco advertising, go for it. It would be cool to see it, even if the challenge has moved on to another topic.

I just spent a very pleasant time going through pics (on thumb drives) of my trips dating back to 2003 and culled these images. All involve motorcycles since that's my main mode of transportation and my only real hobby. Some pics aren't of 'Mail Pouch' barns but are of 'Ohio Bicentennial barns' which was a program Ohio ran around late-2002 and a few years beyond that to celebrate the state's bicentennial. Much like the original MP barns these farmers got a freshly painted barn and a few bucks. There are 88 counties in Ohio and every county got one barn in a prominent location on a state highway. It was a thing to get a photograph of every single barn (I never did) and it really stirred up rural tourism for a while. Pretty cool. I also threw in a few other painted barns including a Ohio wine country barn and a Ohio centennial of flight barn.

Really makes me miss home. I mean, we got the ocean and shit here... but Ohio has pretty barns in a gently rolling landscape...and normal people.

I'm gonna claim this challenge.

I spent an inordinate amount of time online trying to find something consistent with the challenge (MP barn, or similar tobacco advertisement on barn). Other than the Modesto barn, there was nothing.

Then I started just trying to find barn art around here and other than the "barn quilts" that are common everywhere, I again found nothing.

Then, I began looking at building murals thinking maybe I could get a barn depicted on of those (a backdoor way to claim "barn art", see?) - we have tons of murals all of which celebrate the local history and farming / dairy is a big part of that... but no barns in any of them.

Finally in a nearby town I did find some barn art while searching for "Arcata building murals":

and I said to myself, "self, that'll have to do".

So I was driving home from getting that picture and totally by chance I happened by this old barn:

and HOLY SHIT, there was a tobacco advertisement on it:

Not exactly a MP barn but I think given the circumstances it is as good a find as possible.

Tennessee is a weed-free state :wink2: so no extra kudos, but this is about as close is one can get. I'm pretty sure the owner knows someone who knows someone though. This was risky as I also had to navigate among the homeless that apparently do not understand social distancing and the 6' rule.

Falafel’s Drive In in San Jose. A 50 year tradition here. I had a craving and had to have a gyro, but could not go in and sit down since it’s a drive-in. A technicality I know. Ha!

Dagnabbit, I got Bruced

This place has great food and is right on the banks of the scenic and wild Trinity River. You can sit on the patio, eat, and watch rafters run the river in the early summer. Maybe not this summer though. Interesting factoid: the building is built from straw bales.

Sorta related, I had to go through this to get to it. California is crazy with the terrain and weather changes as you go from the coast over the mountain ranges:

The world is reeling from the -Vid. Post your vehicle with a sign on a business, park, public space, etc., explaining the closure or detailing something about the Coronavirus prevention / facts / etc. In my travels yesterday almost every store that was closed had a sign explaining why, and the places that were open had notices about "social distancing" and hand washing and the like. Bonus if you are in Calif (or any other place doing this) and you get the big freeway LED sign notifying you to "wash your hands"
