Farm sign challenge complete. This is a very upscale report near home and lots of celebs from Robert Plant to Ellen Degeneres stay there with the musicians putting on concerts in the barn. Included a couple of pics to show how spectacular the 5000 acre property is.

Since we use Atlas Obscura a lot I thought I'd post up this crazy Atlas Obscura place I found in Nevada... the International Car Forest of the Last Church.

Fast story - I was selling my RTT. Dude in Vegas wanted to buy it but couldn't drive more than a few hours from Vegas since he was on call. I had 4 days off and was bored so I agreed to run it most of the way down to him (600 miles / 11 hr one way). We decided to meet at this super tiny town, Goldfield Nevada, since it was on the way for both of us and was just at his maximum time / distance allowance from Vegas. While looking for a place to meet in Goldfield, I found the Car Forest... and of course we had to check it out. So, we coordinated meeting there, and we swapped over the RTT from my truck to his right next to all the weird cars. Some pics:

Fans of the original Vanishing Point movie (the 1971 movie, not the lame 1997 remake) will immediately recognize Goldfield, NV (particularly the Goldfield Hotel) as the location that Super Soul (the blind DJ in the movie) did his radio broadcast from. Great movie for motorheads!

My wife and I have been through Goldfield a few times on our travels to Death Valley and the Sierras over the years, but we've missed seeing the International Car Forest of the Last Church. I'll make sure that we go there on our next trip! Thanks for posting this!

Here's a picture of the Goldfield Hotel and of a couple of interesting cars in Goldfield that we saw on a trip through there a few years ago.

All still there. They also have a really eclectic radio station broadcasting from there that I enjoyed very much for the 12 miles I could hear it...

It's an early '80s Volvo 245. I had an '84 242 Turbo. Had a lot of trouble with that car. Maybe I should have done something like that to it.

Vanishing Point is great car porn. Lot's of early '70s isms throughout too. Starts out in Denver. Being from Denver, it's a neat reminder to see what Denver and the trip through the mountains looked like back then. Lots has changed since!

The beginning and ending of the movie were filmed in Cisco, UT (portrayed as Cisco, CA in the movie). That's a cool place to visit too. Just a few miles off of I-70 in eastern Utah; not too far from Moab. Here's a picture I took of what's left of the Shell station that you see in the movie:

I'm going to have to watch it. Sounds cool. The closest I came to watching it was the references to it in that Tarantino movie "Deathproof". I meant to watch a few movies talked about in that film... I actually did watch "Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry" because of similar references to it by Tarantino, but I never watched "Vanishing Point".

Ah, Dirty Larry Crazy Larry. Watched that one in my '65 Cutlass at a drive-in when it came out. Vic Morrow was cool in that movie. Susan George (aka "Dingleberry") was fun to watch.

The original Gone in 60 Seconds came out that same year too.

Yeah, it's pretty hokey. I like it for the scenery, familiar places and car action. The plot's pretty dumb.

I grew up with a '55 Chevy wagon that looked just like the one that those two fellas were pushing.

Does a Wrangler still count? If so, here's a shot of the old Meyer Ranch house in Conifer, CO, which is now a part of Jefferson County Open Space (although the house and the area around it are off-limits to the public). The Dish and the solar panels ruin the effect a little bit, though.

Anyway, if this qualifies (MeefZah will have to make that call), how about for the next challenge your 4Runner (or similar 4x4 vehicle) along with a vintage pickup truck, such as the cool old truck below that I saw on my drive home. Dash shots are OK (if safely taken). Only pickups up to 1970 qualify.

Old Vintage Pickup Truck

Went to the Home Depot and got skunked, they close early during daylight covid time. So I drove around some older neighborhoods looking for classic trucks. I found an old Chevy “Beauville” van in pretty good condition. I haven’t seen one of these in quite some time. I believe this style was in production in 1971 and later. From searching the web it seems to be a 73 model. How snazzy.

Satisfied that I could at least submit this for your enjoyment I headed home only to find this old Ford POS beauty. I estimate it’s a mid-late 60s model, but who knows. The owner (~80) saw me photoing his treasure. I said I liked his truck. He said it still runs but sure is loud!

Next up: Your truck in a photo that you’re especially proud of. One that would be good in a Toyota (or whatever) advertisement. Since this may not be a scenic time of year at your location you can dig into your archives and display an old photo. Break the Rules!

The pickup's actually a '62 or '63 GMC. They were all over the place when I was a kid.

That van's color is classic early 70's. Used to refer to colors like that as baby shit. My parents had a '73 Maverick in that color (with a white halo vinyl top and body colored wheel covers). I wanted to put a bag over my head whenever I had to ride in it. And to think they traded in a '68 Mustang on that POS... uke:
