Flexing on rocks in the parking lot of an observatory over looking Boulder, CO. Security caught us, said "It takes 10 minutes for the police get here, I called them as I was walking over here." We bust out of there so fast I almost rolled coming down the mountain haha. This was 5 ish years ago.

OK, I'm going to take some liberties with this one.

We have a famous wiener out here that's been mobile in the past. Originally located in Denver, it moved to Aspen Park in 1970 and now resides on the outskirts of Bailey. So, while it may not be the official "wiener-mobile", it is a wiener that has been mobile. Close enough, I say.

Below are a couple pictures of it. The first one I took this morning, the second is one I took in 2006 when it was being moved from Aspen Park to Bailey. It was looking a little sad in 2006, and as you can see, it needed some help staying up. It doesn't have that problem anymore, despite being much older now.

The wiener is listed in the Atlas Obscura, so for the next challenge, a picture of your favorite vehicle next to something listed in the Atlas.

Oh, nice, I dig the pre-14 rack. Looks really good, way better than the current rack and definitely better than the Pro rack.

This is in the Atlas... The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN. I remember when they built it, I asked "Why here?". I still do. I also included a bonus shot of another stereotypical BS attraction that litters this tourist Mecca below the Smokies... in this case Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Theater.

Anyway, next challenge: Your ride next to a statue of a historical figure or other person famous enough to have a statue of them made. A little background would be good just so we know what we're looking at if not obvious.

Another good find. The AO text description of the activities and items there is pretty funny. There sure is a wonderland of attractions in TN. At least you don’t have another Noah’s Ark like Kentucky.

This is surprisingly difficult. There's no historical figures on statues locally. There used to be... if you want to get just a little pissed at how snowflake wankers can try to white out history, Google "McKinley statue removed from Arcata". Ol' Willy Mac was the only statue around. I have to run into south Oregon tomorrow so I shall remain vigilant!

I'm gonna collect the 72 hr reset on this. I tried to find a historical statue, I got nothing anywhere close. Apparently Californians are so embarrased by their own history that they can't be bothered to memorialize it... or something. Dunno. Back home you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a statue of a Civil War general or something.

Anyway, my "local landmark" for the reset is the Humboldt Bay South Jetty.

Humboldt Bay - Wikipedia

Dangerous sand bars and shifting currents have caused many shipwrecks at the entrance to Humboldt Bay, particularly during the late nineteenth century. Forty-two ships were wrecked in and around the channel, most of them while under tow by a piloted tug boat. Fifty-four ships were wrecked on the Humboldt County coastline. Most shipwrecks occurred between 1850 and 1899...

The bay mouth was stabilized by jetties, with one jetty projecting from each spit. The South Spit jetty was built starting in 1889, but by 1890 observers realized that it had produced erosion of the North Spit and was widening the channel. The jetties are approximately 6,000 feet (1,800 m) long and 2,200 feet (670 m) apart. Recurring storm damage required rebuilding the jetties in 1911, 1927, 1932, 1939, 1950, 1957, 1963, 1971, 1988 and 1995. Entrance currents are strong, ranging from 2.0 knots average maximum ebb and 1.6 knots average maximum flood; but peak rates can be nearly twice as high.

In 1971 and 1984, 42 short tons (38 t) dolosse were added in two layers to secure the jetties, which are maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1972, 4,796 dolosse were manufactured locally; 4,795 of them are on the jetties, and one was installed outside the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. In 1983, 1,000 more dolosse were made at the South Spit yard and left to cure; local newspapers named the curing site "Humboldt's Stonehenge." In 1985, 450 of the dolosse were shipped 35 miles (56 km) around the bay to be placed on the North Spit. At that point, more than $20,000,000 had been spent in total to protect the entrance to Humboldt Bay.

In 1977 the jetties were named an American Society of Civil Engineers California historical civil engineering landmark. They were designated in 1981 as a national historical civil engineering landmark.

Something nautical? How about an old riverboat? This is the Star of Knoxville and sets in the river below where I live. This location is also an area known as Suttree's Landing referenced in Cormac McCarthy's novel Suttree.

To drive the Avenue of the Giants is a lesson in humility. Being watched by earth’s mighty guardians, wooden statues touching heaven, it feels like you’re a single note in a centuries-old symphony composed by rustling treetops over 300 feet above. The scenic highway also includes such famous redwood landmarks as the “Drive-Thru Tree” and the nearly 1,000 year old “Immortal Tree.”

Edit, I should add, these are the small trees on the north end... I was kind of strapped for time and couldn't get to the mid and south ends with the real monsters...

Beautiful country. As much time as I have spent in CA, including the Sacramento area, I realize that the farthest north I have been is if you draw a line from Fort Bragg all the way to Tahoe. Everything from there up to Oregon, I have not seen. I have seen almost the whole state including the coast line and many of the state and national parks all the way down to the southern boarder though.

Totally different world up here, man. The only thing we have in common with the rest of California is that we are bound by their stupid politics. LA voters outnumber us so they decide how things operate up here....700 miles away...

But political bullshit aside, it's the most beautiful place I've been.
