4Runner Smash&Grab

What insurance do you have? Friend of mine had his car broken into and they took everything, stereo, speakers, amp and all his personal belongings. He gave USAA a list of all the things stolen and they purchased and sent him all new stuff, even down to all his CDs. Amazing company to work with, I have them now and I've always had great service. You may not qualify for them but I'm sure there are better options out there.

This does work. A few years ago we went to the Albuquerque Zoo and experienced something very similar. A whole row of vehicles were victims of smash and grabs with the exception of a couple vehicles (my 4runner was not harmed) that had aftermarket alarms. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't have helped.

FWIW, parts of NM have also become hot spots for thieves, Albuquerque being a major one. Lucky us, we are also littered with sanctuary cities and towns. We also have judges that let the bad guys off the hook everyday.

As friend of mine also in construction was fed up with tools being stolen in Chicago. He installed a "bulletproof"/smash proof film to his windows with an alarm... there's lots of reviews of different companies on YouTube. Good luck

This thread appears to be about the unfortunate events happening in a part of our country. The result of bad politics. You can choose to ignore it and act like a tough guy on the web, but this poor guy is feeling it personally.

That's my office building in the bg of pic 2.

I've lived in Oakland a long time. I lost 2 catalytic converters, 2 batteries, a spare tire, and an antenna off of my tacoma. This was when I lived over off of Piedmont Ave.

My 4Runner lasted 2 months before it was broken into in front of my house. I installed a Viper and haven't had any issues since. I often park in West Oakland near Bart, and the Viper has kept the casual thieves away there so I think I'm good now.

One thing you can never do is leave anything out in your car. I mean anything—a couple pennies, a towel, fast food trash—anything. My friend's wife's car has been broken into countless times just because she leaves trash inside her kia.

You are obviously quite an easy going guy and very open to discussion....
 
I grew up in Georgia in a fairly affluent section that was very red - had several cars broken into.
It has nothing to do with the politics of the area.

Actually it does but let's not get the OP's thread locked. Look up Prop 47 and it explains some of the reasoning behind the increased property crime.


OP! Best of luck and hopefully you figure out a way to secure things like a nice drawer setup if you must leave valuables in the truck.
