4Runner Trail Purchase Pending..

Order your 4Runner

I don`t understand the messages about districts not allowing certain options. IMO it`s a statement to get you to buy what they have and not what you really want. But I`m in Southern Calif and it may really be different.

After seeing a number of posts about regions and orders, I asked the sales rep where I ordered my TE, here is his response:

Hi Bob!
Yes we still do special orders. Send them my information I`d be glad to
help them out.
Depending on how complicated the order is, we can usually switch out
some specific options at the factory that is already scheduled to be
built which would minimize wait time.

I ordered a TE July 2, 2012 and received a 2013 in late September. At the time of the order did not know if it would be a 2012 or 2013, but dealer said no price change if it`s a 2013.

each region orders has specific requirements. dealers within that region can only get what the region orders. that means your vehicle will only come with those options/pacakges as factory or PIO.

dealers can add anything they want as a DIO (dealer installed option) but if its outside the region options/packages, they can/will add that cost to your sticker price at what they want to charge and are not bound to OEM pricing requirements.

that why you see some dealers with lift kits, wheels that are not OEM and they charge a premium markup for those.

Talked with another dealer this afternoon about an hour outside of Houston that has a non-KDSS Trail and asked about the odds of him getting one from a dealer in CA, WA, or OR and he said "it takes an act of Congress to get a vehicle from another dealership. Yuor best bet is to fly out and drive one back. So much for the tax savings. Want KDSS, but not that badly, lol! He knew that was the only way he was going to make a sale, and it was still a no-go. Guess they aren't hungry.....

He did say that he would bet that Gulf States Toyota starts ordering KDSS starting next year because with the FJ Cruiser discontinuation, they will begin pushing buyers into the KDSS Trail as a substitute for the FJ, which will mean ordering the most trail capable rigs possible. Not going to wait around to see.

I guess the economy in Texas is chugging along well enough that car dealers aren't willing to go through the hassle of sourcing or ordering one? Who knows.

Sounds like you have a great salesperson. What dealership is it and where are they located?

Make any ground on those price negotiations? Or you may be holding off until you decide on the KDSS.

Have a local deal finalized should I decide to pull the trigger. Need to get off the fence. Have pretty much resigned myself to not getting a White TP w KDSS due to VERY limited availability >2000 miles away. No dealer in Houston or surrounding towns that I've found wants to bring one in. They claim the best they can do is order a 2015, but they aren't sure about pricing. Like that's gonna work! This process over the past few weeks has gotten me to the point where I'm tempted to just keep my truck. I'd likely be fine without the KDSS as I wouldn't know what I'm missing, but have lost some enthusiasm.

KDSS meh.... nothing a stage 2 + wont fix. get an SR5 and mod it with all the money you save.... come back and thank me later. I compare this to a Jeep Rubicon. Out of the box it is a great vehicle.... if you are gonna mod it you will eventually just rip all that sit out you paid extra for. Unlike a Rubicon, you cant really sell the parts at a premium

Is ordering from Toyota.com not an option?

Speak to a car broker. They can do all the leg work over multiple states for you. I used one when I bought my TE and didn't have to pay him a dime, if it's a new vehicle they (at least mine) get paid as if they're a Toyota salesman. Also got me 2k more for my trade than I could have otherwise and he came to my office to deliver the t4r, swap keys, and have me fill out paperwork.

Well, looks like I'll be picking up my new 4Runner from a local dealer in Houston tomorrow. Took the White Trail Premium that I negotiated the deal on earlier this week out on bailment to make sure I could live without KDSS. While I'm sure it helps handling significantly as others have said, I'm comfortable with not having it, as it did pretty well for a true SUV. Planning to put some 5100's on it and change out the tires for a size larger, and "C" rated, which should help a bit in the corners as well. The stock tires do give a bit. Maybe some stiffer springs at some point. I'll save the really hard cornering for the wife's BMW! :biggrin1: Thanks again to everyone here for the comments and suggestions on this thread and in PM's!
