I passed on the TRD Pro. Just couldn't get the number where I wanted it. I had a hard time weighing what I was getting vs the TE and what it was worth to me. I don't care for leather, or fake leather for that matter. I actually prefer cloth seats. I went with a TE instead

Now that I'm running winter steelies, I have to say the black is a good contrast.
The TRDP really needs black door handles, mirrors, and roof rack to match the wheels.

Agree. The TE trim from 2010-2013 looks the best of the 5th Gens, imo (though I'm not a fan of black wheels on most any vehicle, mine included).

First post, and thank god for this forum.
Briefly, I enjoy surf fishing for monster sharks and I'm looking to purchase a 4Runner to pull double duty as a cummuter and weekend gear hauler. It's been a long purchase process for me. I was initially attracted to the plushness of the T4R limited and its push button start but ended up "buying" up 2014 F150 lariat. I put that in quotes because the dealer pulled the bait and switch on me with the 0% financing and/or rebate garbage. After the majority of papers were signed I walked out of the financing office pretty pissed and with no deal. I joke about it now, but for a day after I was wondering if I actually owned the truck. Anyway, I decided to wait for 2015 F150, more plushness, more price.
Last week my wife's car started acting up so we looked at Explorers, Highlanders, Volvos, Bimmers, and ended up pulling the trigger on a Honda Pilot. Naturally, I became even more pissed about the F150, so eff Ford. My current vehicle just turned 10 and I am ready to buy now.
I've pivoted my position and now want an SUV that I can safely keep my gear in and haul a few buddies with me on road trips to Florida. To the best of my research there is no other real SUVs in this mid-sized market. I started googling and BOOM TRD Pro is a sexy beast. I love the blacked out look.
I called one of the dealers here yesterday and they had a white one and have already sold and delivered two black ones. I went to look at it and as I walked up... No sunroof. Wtf! Googling that is how I found this forum.
The salesmen told me there wasn't any navi either, which isn't true, but strange that he said it. He was trying to push me to a TEP but I'm not sure why. My wife didn't care for the TRD Pro because he kept talking up how tuned it was for desert racing. Blah blah. I wanted to say, bud, this is Charleston there isn't a desert around here. When a man is with his wife, talk about the safety and roomie interior. If I called asking about the TRD Pro, wouldn't he assume I had googled it first?
As the conversation with the salesman continued he suggested adding the wheels and badging to make a TEP look like the TRD Pro. Sounds like a PITA.
I do have a question for the group. The brochure for the TEP shows the softex as grey and the TRD Pro as black. Can someone confirm the TEP interior is identical to the TRD Pro?
It seems like few folks have seen the Orange TRD in a dealership. Is it possible that color has a sunroof? Which would explain the disconnect from the marketing materials and prerelease reviews. After all, wouldn't the Orange arrive at port already painted (I really don't know).
KDSS seems to be installed on all the TEPs in the area. Will this help my commute or the 3-4 times I will take this thing off-road per year?
Finally, what is up with that silly tailgate sliding thing? That will be a nightmare to clean san or spills out of. Seems like every TEP or TRD Pro in the South East has that. $350 burn. Thanks for making it to the end!

I just got my TRD Pro yesterday, so I'll attempt to answer your questions:
The salesman was probably pushing you to a TEP because that's what he has/can get, while the TRD Pro is nearly impossible to find (at least where I live).
The TEP and TRD Pro have black interiors with red stitching and black plastic trim while the SR5 P has two-tone beige or two-tone gray interiors with the same color stitching (not red) and silver plastic trim. The TEP/TRD Pro interior looks really sporty with the red stitching. Except for the TRD shift knob in the TRD Pro, the TEP and TRD Pro interiors are identical.
No 2015 TRD Pros will have moonroofs. This might change for 2016 if there is a TRD Pro, but I wouldn't bet on it.
I drove a TEP with KDSS and slightly prefer the ride of the TRD Pro that doesn't have it, but both seem really good on-road and far better than the SR5 4x2 without KDSS that I drove.
At first I wasn't a fan of the sliding tailgate, but without it the back seats don't fold flat, which is a problem for me since I and my wife often sleep in the back of the vehicle while camping. It's also nice for using as a tailgate to sit on while in camp and could be handy for loading stuff. A $350 option on a $40,000+ vehicle is not that big of a deal and it seems a fair price to me. I ordered the rubber/plastic cargo tray to keep the carpet clean.

I was just about home, pulled up to my local desert rat station to pick up some cold ones, two dusty scruffers sitting on their quads were looking right at me, when I stepped out, one of em said "that's a bad ass truck!".....nuf said for now.

Congrats! Looks awesome. Can you let me know what you think of the running boards. I've got Nfabs on order but they are back ordered right now and was thinking of the Toyota running boards. Thanks.

Aesthetically, I kind of like them. The knobby texture is a good complement to the paint, wheels and tires. Also streamlines the truck's appearance.
Functionally, I'm getting used to the step into the cabin. These boards are farther inboard than the ones on my z71 suburban, so its feels a little weird (for me right now) when stepping onto the floor of the cabin;feels like I'm too high up and have to drop down far into the seat.
The boards inboard obviously will help side clearance. I've never used the Nfabs, so I cannot make a comparison to them. The Nfabs definitely look and are stronger than these plastic ones, and have less surface area to catch obstructions.

Absolutely...great area for offroading, quadding, dirtbiking, mountain biking, hunting, shooting, you name it...perfect place for the TRD Pro.

That looks like the TRD Pro I saw in Pasadena on Friday. Is that where you bought it? The sales guy who called me to tell me it was in was busy when I came in and I had to leave, so I never got to drive it. Otherwise I might have bought it before you saw it. :becky:
Nice looking truck. I really didn't want black so I'm glad you got it. The sticker price was around $41,200, IIRC. Did you get any break on the price? I'll hold out for another TRD Pro in white or red or the Trail Edition with KDSS.

That wasn't me you saw in Pasadena. I purchased mine in San Diego. Black was a compromise color for me, I drive off-road practically daily and this color is a concern. I went for the only available one I could secure. No dealer could make any promises on getting a white one for 2015. TRP Pro 4R is a hot item.
