4runner TRD Pro

Tried searching - could not find anything on this topic.

I just got my TRDPro a couple weeks ago and noticed that when I go over larger bumps - like a speed bump - there is a bit of a clunk coming from the front of the truck. Totally gone over standard road bumps. I'm not sure if I am being hypersensitive or maybe it is "normal" for this suspension.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks guys.

Yep, have the same clunk on SOME low speed bumps when I'm offroad. It's not consistant however.

First upgrades

Purchased the cargo cover to hide any goods in the back. Also got the weather tech mat for the cargo (i didn't get the sliding cargo tray). Getting front windows tinted today @ 20%.

Next on list is sliders and painting the roof rail black. Any recommendations on sliders? Also looking into arb air compressor.

Finally pulled the trigger and put down a deposit on a white TRD Pro!

I unfortunately missed out on the one they had sitting in port as my wife and I were out of the country for a week and then had to deal with her mother being in the hospital when we returned.

Downside is that this new one is not expected to arrive in port until February. The waiting game begins!

Reverse over a anything a few inches and clunk every time from the rear. I reverse into my driveway and can make it do it every time so far...hmmmm

My FJ did the same when it was new. Seemed to me that it was sticky bushings on the front sway bar when the noise came from the front and the slip joint on the driveshaft when the noise came from the rear. After a bit of time and off-road use, it all went away. Given the number of off-road miles the FJ now has 7 years later, there are other creaks and clunks occasionally that I have become so used to that I just ignore them. That said, Toyota is known for the clunk sound coming from the slip joint on the rear drive shaft for many years now it seems.

That said, every Toyota 4x4 I have owned has had the driveshaft clunk. I really worried about it on my 100 Series Land Cruiser as it was a clunk that I could physically feel while sitting in the drivers seat. I had several dealerships, including one that I highly trust, take a look at it and their master techs all said everything was good and a little lube every now and then mostly took care of it. Other than the annoying noise, the Land Cruiser went to 170,000 miles with no problems as related to the clunk when I traded it in.

For now I would say that we should all keep an eye, or ear for that matter, on the clunks everyone is reporting but shouldn't worry too much about them.

My 2013 FJ had a propeller shaft clunk that was physically felt from the driver's seat as well. There was/were a TSB on the earlier models for the same issue, but the shafts were supposedly redesigned to rid the problem.
That being said, when I took my 13 FJ in for the issue, the service department greased the zerk on the prop shaft and that stopped the clunk issue.

Might want to give this a try....

N-Fabs are in on this rainy day. Makes getting in and out much easier specially for kids and elderly. Inspired by #TRDPRORUNNER

Agree! It is a very noticeable clunk (in reverse).

I have also experienced a noise not long after purchasing my T4R, it is the brake pads shifting when the brake is applied going in reverse after they have been applied while moving forward at an earlier time.

This is normal for this to occur and nothing from Toyota for that fix as of yet.

Is this what some are hearing?

Nope. Normal low speed with or without breaking IN reverse. BUT I never pull in driveway forward, so will need to do that to see if it does it then. Mostly no breaking. My LE never made a noise like this. Literally, clunk!
I have an appointment for a deflector on Friday, will see what they say. I'm not worried as I think it will be fixable. Everything else is great!

Sweet! much better than oem running boards! I ordered those 12 days ago and had to file a claim for non delivery! Reordered and on the way! Turns out the carrier delivered my bars to 4wheel parts and they never returned them.

Are those one piece or bar must be attached to brackets which is attached to frame?

According to a phone conversation I had previously with N-FAB, they don't make any that attach to the "frame"!

All welded as one piece bolts to the frame. Very solid feel and a very heavy duty coating on them. Totally soaked today and no slip. I'm very happy with them. And I agree with you about the Plastic OEM boards. Send some pics after you bolt on.

Dude, You know what I mean.

Sir,

Really?

I know what you typed, I presume you meant what you typed and nothing else.
N-FAB's only bolt to the body according to N-FAB.
Just trying to clarify how they bolt, sorry you took offence!

Here is a link for you:

I really wish I knew what everyone means when they say or type something else.....there may be money in that!

Whoa! I saw a Inferno Tundra in person today. I first heard a deep rumble then I turned and saw it taking a turn from my left! That color is kickass!

I can't wait! Too bad we can't make a V6 sound like that.

I will take a pic of how the N-FABs are attached to the TRDP. It's too wet and dark right now. I don't think they are designed to be sliders and I should have said body not frame. If you are looking for sliders that can bear the weight of the vehicle these won't work for you. I live in a flat island and will probably not do much serious rock crawling so they meet my needs.
