4runner TRD Pro

jus wondering if paying msrp is still not bad of a deal on these pros. i feel like they should give me a better deal as I've already purchased one.in the vegas/cali area who's been giving the best deals? I've heard or people paying below msrp a referral would be dope if possible

Got it. I still need to look learn more about tire pressures while off roading. I don't have a trd so I have to rely on my own skills and logic.

the difference between 10-12PSI and 15-16 PSI is arguably bigger than the difference between 15-16 and 35 PSI

In Homosassa FL. To the owner of a wrecked White 14/15/16 TRDP sorry to see it @ the shop on a flatbed on 490. Hope you're ok, hope insurance does you right.

I have basically caught it prior to it getting out to far and it's honestly hard to describe but it's almost like fish tailing and then it will start to push the front tires to break tread as well. I might need to take my foot out of it and I don't discount that as a possible issue also. :loco: I do know what you are saying about the VSC, the Tundra did the same thing but that hasn't happened just yet.

Mine definitely gets loose under what I deem as moderate acceleration (particularly when it's raining). I attribute it to 2wd and the Nittos not being as good in the wet as my MIchelins on my full-time 4wd LE. It does make me think twice about punching it on a turn in the rain to try and jump into traffic. Better to wait for a bigger opening.

That is exactly what I am experiencing as well. It's odd, the front wheels pull a little and then it feels like the rear end breaks loose under I let off on the gas. It is very dramatic when it's wet or raining, which is more of what I would be expecting it to do in the snow. It's only happened a couple times, thankfully I have driven fast cars and felt it before to know how to react but it was startling.

Why couldn't Toyota have just given the Pro a moonroof? These are such great looking trucks. I probably just going to go TE premium w/ the gray TRD wheels and TOYOTA grille.

I'm 6'3" and love not having moonroof/sunroof. My Limited was very tight on space for top of my head. Feel like I have so much more room!

Forgive me for not reading this whole thread, but I'm considering a trd pro and I have a question about the "clunk" in the suspension that many owners have reported.

I'm wondering if any pro owners do NOT have the clunk or if this is effecting all the trd pros. Thanks in advance gang.

3500 miles in, no clunk.

Ride is grade--KDSS has a little less body roll around slow corners, and had a little smoother ride--but probably due to the all season radials.

I was aired down to 18-20psi. I wanted to keep some extra ride height because this was my first time on this trail and I was wheeling without any other vehicles that could help me out.

i really don't understand why people don't air their tires down. dude should not have had that much trouble ascending that.

That's my "old" TRD. The moonroof was put in aftermarket.

Kyle,

That's some good video. Where were you at?

You mentioned when we were at Bridgeport that you had been using crawl control and were impressed with how well it worked. It look like maybe you were using it in some of the ascents in the video. Were you?

Last question: Have you taken delivery of your new Pro?

No, I haven't learned anything about driving off-road since that video. My 4Runner has been at the dealership since Sept. with a rebuilt engine after they forgot to put oil back in it on the second oil change. I am completely heartbroken about it and have been waiting patiently for my 2016 TRD to arrive ever since where I can get back out there and learn more.

That was only the second time I had ever done any difficult off-roading and I just wanted to post a video for others interested in 4Runners since there is a real lack of videos showcasing the 4Runner's(especially the TRD's) off-road ability. My intention wasn't to show how much of a trail boss I am. After that initial run, I looped back around and did it again with no problem, so maybe I am getting better.

I have owned two 4Runners (1997 2WD SR5/2015 TRD) for a total of 17 years, so I don't have the 4WD experience others have but I am trying to learn with the help of others that I have met here on T4R.org. Please remember that not all of us on this forum are "experts" like you, but may be novices like me that might be in need of some constructive criticism or trail buddies to take us under their wing. We deserve respect no matter our experience level and at the very least a little common courtesy as life long 4Runner brothers and sisters.

/end rant

All of that said, hopefully we will meet up on the trails sometime and have a good time with our beloved off-road machines.

Yeah has he learned how to actually drive offroad since that video?

Shoot. Everyone has been not as experienced at some point in their life. Don't worry about it. You'll get proficient soon.

Hey Rick,

This was in Hot Springs, AR at Superlift OHV. We should definitely get up there when I get my new ride. There were some trails that I was hesitant to go on because I didn't have anyone with me to help out if I got in over my head. It is gorgeous up there and the trails were well marked with a good map. Over 2 days I probably did about half of it.

I only used the Crawl Control a couple times during our ride in Bridgeport. It works really well but ultimately I have found that it is too loud at low speeds and I like to have a little more control over larger rocks and technical surfaces. I wasn't using it in this video at all. I believe I just hit this ascent too hard and lost traction on the dirt and gravel. Between the recording, pride and my best friend staring at me, I couldn't let off the gas. I looped around and ran it again slower and walked right up it with no issues.

The new TRD is supposed to be shipped on Dec 26th. They are also trying to find one for a dealer trade to get it to me earlier. I'm preparing myself for mid January and if it arrives earlier I will be pleasantly surprised. I will text you and swing by when it arrives. We definitely need to get back out there.

Dealer emailed me yesterday with bad news ( albeit temporary ), the boat from Japan is slow going and won't hit the port till Tuesday, and then who knows how long to get to the Midwest? 1-2 weeks...uuugh. But I've waited this long, guess I can do a couple of more weeks.
I need this truck to get here! My pile of parts is high!
