4runner with 150,000 miles / 2005 V6

My 2005 runner is in the Bahamas and never sees speeds over 50 mph.

I change the oil every 5000 miles and had the tranny fluid changed by the dealer once at 100,000. Guess it's about time for the tranny drain and fill (4 quarts) again.

I did the rear differential myself at 110,000 miles (3 quarts - just until it spills the top fill plug). I used conventional. The differential will live longer than I will. It took under an hour.

New tires once. Brakes once. Starters (4 of them).

I owned a GMC Jimmy from new once, and sold it because the body rusted away everywhere. Got $600.

4runner has no rust and runs like a top, so why buy a new car.

Here where I live the government has no taxes, but cars over $50,000 get dutied at 67%. So a $50,000 4runner costs you $80,000 to land.

I like the sound of no taxes but that duty is harsh. I would never even consider owning a 50k vehicle if the government was gonna get 30 grand. I don't mind paying my fair share but that's unreal.

Just curious - why 4 starters? I've replaced exactly one Toyota starter in 38 years of owning them. That was on my son's Corolla with 200k miles, and was caused by a failing aftermarket remote start.

Your 4Runner sounds like a keeper. You should easily get 300,000mi out of it, so why buy a new car/truck?
