4runner would crank but not start

Hey guys - i purchased my latest 4runner a few weeks ago.. on the drive home the engine light came on and the vehicle required an air fuel sensor (02). The truck started poorly occasionally and idled around 3-400 RPMs during the day or two i drove it with the light on. I replaced the part and it fixed everything except my idle was only around 500/550 RPMs. After driving for a about a week i went to start it (yesterday) and it would just crank and not fire up - the engine was warm at this point. I tried once again and it started but bogged down a little then everything was normal. Since then it has started every time with no issues. I was planning on doing a tune up (spark plugs and wires, clean MAF and throttle body) and am wondering two things

1. what could have caused this? (i was at 400KM off one tank of gas when it happened but was still able to drive 15 KM afterwards with no signs of low fuel, the meter read above empty with no gas light on and the vehicle was parked on flat ground when it wouldn't start)

2. are there any parts/cleaning i can do while doing the tune up which would be beneficial considering the issue

as always thanks for the help

Sounds like the computer has been compensating for the bad O2 sensor. It will take some miles to get the values back in order. I think you're on the right track to tackle spark plugs especially not knowing when they were last done.

I would also clean the MAF and throttle body. These trucks can be very sensitive to dirty MAF sensors.

After all that if it runs rough again we need to hope for a code to continue troubleshooting.

Good Luck!
