My impressed is that the 5th gen are made and assembled in Japan and then shipped over here. The port will install certain options here but otherwise everything else is assembled in Japan. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I purposefully transitioned from a US made Tacoma to a Japan designed, assembled, and perfected Toyota 4Runner before they decided to assemble it here in the US. I personally think that there is a higher standard of products coming over from the Mother country. :peep:

I think they are all completely built/assembled in Japan.

When I ordered my 5th gen, it was on the boat coming from Japan.

Simple, if the VIN begins with a J it's made in Japan

Code Description
1 USA
2 Canada
3 Mexico
4 USA
5 USA
6 Australia
8 Argentina
9 Brazil
J Japan
S England
M Thailand
K Korea
V France
W Germany

Sorry, you are right. I just checked my wife's BMW X3 VIN and it starts with a "5" which is USA. I know the X3's are built here.
My BMW motorcycle starts with a "W".

It is the country in which the vehicle is physically built. If you look at a lot of Ford cars you will see they are manufactured in Mexico.

Still made in Japan. The only real change has been that the 5th Gen is the first 4Runner that does not have a JDM Hilux Surf equivalent.

Made in

Japan up to now and i hope it's stay that way,i had 2nd gen. and i still own my 93 hilux which is also the last few made in Japan and my longest project ever my 87 FJ60 LC always have been made in Japan. FYI some Rav 4 are still built in Japan which i was surprise to find out.

yeah when we had our old 2009 v6, it was made in japan. I made sure when we bought it the vin started with "J".

during all the recall madness, the "J" coded ones never received about 80% of the recalls the usa made ones did :)

Open drivers door and you will finde this sign

Isn't that strange? It's MADE IN JAPAN, and they don't even offer it in Japan?

is it 100% true that a 2018 4Runner is still made in Japan, and maybe no assembled here? LIke BMW and many others do?

All 4Runner a made in Japan, I believe in two plants. I know the 4th Gen was, not sure if two plants are building the 5th Gen.

Lexus is also made in Japan.
