I purposefully transitioned from a US made Tacoma to a Japan designed, assembled, and perfected Toyota 4Runner before they decided to assemble it here in the US. I personally think that there is a higher standard of products coming over from the Mother country.eep:
Simple, if the VIN begins with a J it's made in Japan

Does this meaan its built in the country or that the company is based in that country?
Japan up to now and i hope it's stay that way,i had 2nd gen. and i still own my 93 hilux which is also the last few made in Japan and my longest project ever my 87 FJ60 LC always have been made in Japan. FYI some Rav 4 are still built in Japan which i was surprise to find out.
Still made in Japan. The only real change has been that the 5th Gen is the first 4Runner that does not have a JDM Hilux Surf equivalent.
All 4Runner a made in Japan, I believe in two plants. I know the 4th Gen was, not sure if two plants are building the 5th Gen.
Lexus is also made in Japan.
