so...I've had my TRD Pro for almost 2 years now...thinking all along that I might not mod this baby at all...I came from 08 FJ TTSE...which I modded heavily and wheeled just as much....the FJ took me all over the globe essentially...finishing up in Morocco where I competed in the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles...when I got back from the rallye I made the decision to take it easy because my back (which was already compromised) took a beating...I sold the FJ to my teammate (in Switzerland)...she (the FJ) is now Suisse...and bought the 4runner...rationalizing and justifying that I needed something bigger because I had 2 grandchildren at the time...when I first got it, I mounted a fire extinguisher in the cargo area...and that was the extent of any additions.

I had an ARB frig and outback drawer from the FJ days...so I threw them in the cargo area..

today I put my "FIRST" sticker on the 4runner (adds an additional 15hp at the wheel)....loll

pics pending

How I got into 4wheeling

way back when...somewhere in 2007, I met a guy who did R&D
for Pettit Racing.....I had an 05 Rx8 Special Edition Shinka...Pettit was the first come out with a blower for the 8...up until then it was all turbos, Gretty and the like...

this guy lived in WPB...and loved to ride thru the mangroves in the Keys in his Isuzu Vehicross...he let me drive it...and that was all she wrote...

3 months later, I bought an FJ...2008 TTSE...Iceberg White..

this is what it looked like when I picked it up:

Very cool truck and experiences. Can't wait to see more in the future! Now it's time to get some goodies for that 4Runner :thumb:

Great pics. When I first bought my 4Runner, I thought it would be cool to try and drive (off-road) it on other continents.

Can you tell me a little more about what is involved in shipping a car to a different country and driving it there? e.g. paperwork, cost, coordinating shipment and receipt, etc.

for shipping you can go one of 2 ways....

1. RORO - roll-on, roll-off - they drive it right onto the ship...con: nothing can be left inside the truck..except for a car seat...its the cheapest way...it cost me $1650 to ship to Belgium...customs is quick...individual has to have the title to pick it up...

2. put it in a container - costly to rent the container, long time for customs but you can store a lot of shit in the container...will probably sit at the port for at least a week maybe more before you can have the truck..

not sure where you are located...DAS global...great company...ships out of north jersey/ny... Bayonne

*** CAN NOT SHIP A VEHICLE UNLESS YOU OWN IT...AND MUST HAVE TITLE

I hear ya on the tank, I could only get 200 miles out of mine (on my FJ) with everything on it and fully loaded. LOL That was even with the best practices invoked for long trips.

What about driving it legally in other countries? e.g. places where vehicles are RHD

Did you have to get temporary plates?

no temp plates...just your drivers licence, title, registration and proof of insurance...insurance is a big deal...and insurance here in the states is worthless...you need to get it from the country you're in...

if I were you, I would hit Australia...not far from you...

I have a friend that lives there now...he's from the states...one of the founding fathers of our truck club - the FJ Bruisers...

you can contact him thru facebook...he has shipped many vehicles back and forth from OZ

he works for Lightforce Australia.... Benjamin Meddows

To-Do List

so here are some things on my to-do list for the 4runner

1. install CB (already have) ...I am anxious to get some input
on other installs -- I am not a fan of the Cobra 75...have seen too many
get fried from water in the cabin and the sound is not so great...

2. wiring for the ARB frig

3. front bumper (ordered from Shrockworks)

4. skids (ordered from Shrockworks)

5. lift (will check what's needed after fb installed)

6. roof rack (install ARB 2500 awning)

7. install ARB compressor (already have)

8. rear diff breather

EDIT: You should totally join us camping at the Cove in Va in the fall! The stories alone would be awesome.
