4Running Daily's Build Thread

Out of curiosity where did you get that 109.5 degrees from?

By taking measurements off the planned coilover bucket, that angle will offset the height and width of the mount perfectly. I just took the dimensions off the website and made a triangle.

oh also you might want this, maybe ill do it up in inventor to make things a bit easier.

I actually already saw that, thanks!

My Icon Piggybacks need to be rebuilt and I'm not liking the cost haha
$100 each for the rebuild
$60 each for new shafts
$17 each for a revalve

Total would be like $354

but I could sell them after the rebuild for $800.. hmm decisions

They need to be rebuilt because they leak, and the pitted shafts need to be replaced too. But if I'm just going to link the rear in a year anyways, am I better off selling them now and running bilsteins in the back until I'm ready to cut.

You could just do a basic rebuild yourself, new shafts, leave the valving. For now atleast. Trust me you dont want to go back to bilsteins haha

These icons are stiff as crap. They're valved for an FJ cruiser hahah. I actually really want to do the rebuild myself. Maybe I can find someone in San Diego that would help me revalve them.

ohh damn. I mean the valving wouldn't be too hard to change once you got in there, just need the proper shim stack and order

ADS actually taught me a decent amount when we were assembling my front shocks. So assuming those skills transfer over to Icon somewhat, I should be good. With 2 or 3 hundred pounds of weight in the back I'm good.

Yea it should, I've never looked at an icon rebuild but I've read King, SAW, and Fox rebuilds. Heck both sets of Kings I've done I had to remove both shim stacks to get to the lower main seal and wiper.

The trick is getting the shim stack right. Never done it myself but shock tuning takes a lot of trial and error from what I've heard. Might be best to get a 4runner shim stack from Icon and go with that if your looking to replace them soon anyways

Does the "$100 each for rebuild" include the price of oil/seals, or did you not figure that into the price?

So much this. I just put 5125's on while I am getting my Icons rebuilt and it's TERRIBLE. I cannot wait to get my Icons back.

Bro just look up a tutorial, it's really like the simplest thing in the world lol. Let alone just revalving them, you like unscrew 3 things and have the valve stack and swap in a different stack and voila. I definitely wouldn't pay anyone.

Maybe I'll make a write-up then :spy:

do it. if you want a good one too look at for now check out Filthy Motorsports' writeup King Shock Rebuild Instructions | Filthy Motorsports

If you plan to sale the icons, I would leave them setup for an FJ. I would think they would easier to sale that way.

If you plan a run, please post up with plenty of time for others to plan to attend. My dual case install is close to finished. Some skids and I'm good to go.

This, once you open them up it is pretty damn self explanatory to rebuild and revalve them. DSM could set you up with a valve stack for a 4runner and you should be fine. Or possible see if ICON will give you the measurements for the 4runner valve stack and buy a generic stack that you could mess with to find a sweet spot.
