4Running Daily's Build Thread

Yeah man... It seems like she buys smalls things every single day. I should tally the cost and make a purchase every time she spends $1000. Probably be every week. :dizzy:

I did the flipping thing a few times then realized my time was worth more than the profit I was making... The flakes were too much for me.

I think you know I'm living the struggle as well...

Little mileage update on my 255/85 KM2's

21,000 miles on them and they have 8/32nds of tread left. New is 18/32nds. So that's not terrible mileage. I'll take it.

Alright, I need opinions. Dirtco TheArkMaster ChildrenOfBodom Broker Rockdawg84 The supercharger is tentatively sold. Which means I have a ton of money saved from profit off flipping parts on craigslist.

So I have 2 options basically:
1) Someone is willing to sell me their camburg long travel kit with rebuilt Kings and everything I need for $2400. And then buy 5 Hankook MT's ($1100) and deal with not re-gearing for 9 months or so. Total cost: $3500

2) Skip the amazing long travel deal and buy 5 35" Toyo MT's ($320 x 5=$1600) and re gear with a front air locker ($2600).

Sparknotes:
Option 1 is $3500
Option 2 is $4200

Tire Prices
5 Toyo MT's $1600
5 MTR's $1400
5 Hankook MT's $1100

#1 seems awesome! But 35s with no re-gearing seems like it might be painful :(

#2 probably makes the most "sense". But then need bigger cash outlay for future LT :( but would at least drive nice till then. :)

So...

I'm no help at all :D

Go with suspension first. Your tires are fine and IMO I'd rather get the suspension out of the way since it will be the most expensive and time consuming aspect of the build. Just run the tires you have since there is still tread and work out all the little things about LT (fenders, gusseting, new cv's, brake lines, ect.) Better to deal with all of that now and while you have some cash before sinking all of your money into tires and gears and holding out on LT for a few more years. It will be a lot of work and I'd rather get that out of the way and running right than trying to do it while dealing with 35's. Remember you can sell your Toytec coilovers, Camburg UCA's, and stock CV's for a good amount to recoup the cash (about the same amount as the tires). Also since you live in AZ I wouldn't worry so much about a regear. There aren't as many hills as CO and you should be good for 9 months to a year without gears.

In terms of tires, go with the Hankooks. I have heard nothing but great things about them and aren't as heavy as the other two (I would imagine). That will help out with the regear issue.

It sounds like the LT you're scoring a deal versus not getting any deal, I would do the LT. The LT is also gonna give you a much more versatile truck, and improve every aspect including onroad and offroad handling. Course I'm biased :lookout:

I agree, get the suspension you want. Later down the road you can jump to 35s, regear and lock the front. Then you'll be that much happier you did it in that order.

Hankooks are 65 pounds a tire. You make some valid points.

You are quite biased haha

Go with LT, no need for 35s, plus you will have more clearance with 285s anyway and more power.
There is always a reason for 35's :D

Sounds like suspension is an obvious winner.

Thank you all!

I would go with the LT. I finally removed my 35s and stepped down to a 34" tire. I just couldn't keep them from bashing the firewall even after all of my replating. Even with the 34s I can still feel the tire hitting my firewall on hard slams.

$2400 for a camburg kit and kings is a hell of deal even if the Kings need need a full service done on them. If you want icon coilovers I'll trade you straight up for them.

Another vote here for LT.. because.. well.. because its Long Travel suspension. :tea:
I guess my style of rig leans more that way so I'm totally just bias towards that. hah.
I have no personal experience towards either.. But someday I wish to have LT on mine, so naturally, I'm leaning that way for you too. :yo:

35s are nice if you have the proper clearance to run them (LT fenders/etc) but if not, youre gonna do a lot of damage cycling that LT suspension at full speed.

I'll throw my 2c's in too. I would do the suspension because you are getting a deal, and it matches your style of driving, mix of fast and rocks. Tires and gears can always happen deals on LT don't :driving:

Agreed. Do the Suspension setup. Especially if your going LT, there's not a need for a front locker when going fast. Plus your rig is plenty capable with a rear locker, and either way, you'll be able to still crawl if needed. Tire price isn't going to change.

My $.02, you are getting a hell of a deal on the LT. You'll probably save more money doing the suspension first either way.
