4Running Daily's Build Thread

If all that doesn't fix the problem I would say you have a broken foot. LOL Honestly though I would encourage you to look at the lightened flywheel not the heavy flywheel. If you are going to have 4.7 gears then get the advantage of the lighter flywheel on the street. If you haven't already ordered stuff I will be in Phx on Saturday and you can drive mine with the 13lb flywheel.:zoom:

Yours is cheating. 4.88 gears and a supercharger. That is a good point though, and I am leaning towards doing the 4.7 box.

I really wish I had my 24ish pound flywheel back. It was so much easier than my resurfaced stock one...

Hmm... alright I'll have to look into that. I wonder how much the stock one weighs

Ran Turkey Creek with some Tacoma friends.

The Jeep broke half way through the trail. It's 6 months and 5000 miles old and the fuel pump has failed twice. So the good old 4Runner towed him up and over a few mountains. It amazed everyone there. These MTR's are hands down the best tire I've ever run. I will run them again when I'm ready for a new set, probably early 2017.

I had a very similar problem with my transmission and clutch. Hard to shift into first while sitting still. Grinding at times into other gears. It was no better with a new master cylinder and slave cylinder. I adjusted the linkage on the master cylinder and that helped for a few weeks, but the symptoms returned. So I bought a new clutch and got to work. When I pulled the transmission the clutch FORK was actual cracked and bent. If you have the same issue you might be able to tell by watching the slave cylinder in action. Anyway, once I replaced that it was good to go. Good luck with yours.

Awesome truck! Just read through most of your build thread.

Are you going to be in Phoenix permanently or are you moving back to California? I ask because I'm moving out to Phoenix the end of the year after I graduate from college and wouldn't mind having someone who knows the area for trails and whatnot.

I didn't think about the clutch fork being bad. I replaced mine as preventative maintenance because my dad wore a hole in his in the '89. I think it was around $40.

You just trying on new shoes?
Yep! We had a mod day with my Tacoma friends and one of my friends brought over the spare tire from his rock buggy. I'm getting a little bored with throwing money towards maintenance. I haven't done an actual upgrade in a while, so I'm playing around with what I want to do next. I have a feeling after the transmission is done, I'll regear with a front locker. Then I'll build some front suspension, or re-link the rear.
I guess the newer tranny install doesn't take first priority......

Nice 10 point win by the Sun Devils last night.
Still saving up money to pay for all the parts! Working for a beer distributor now which is a pretty fun college job.

I'm excited we're able to hold on to being undefeated for a little bit longer!

I'm very interested in what you're going to do with the front, I picked up a TC long travel kit off craigslist a few weeks back and I'm debating if I want to install it or build a jig and duplicate with the intention to beef it up a bit to take direct impacts while crawling. They'd look something like heim's instead of bushings, a 1.25" uniball upper and something to replace the fact that they retain the lower factory balljoint with annoys the shit outta me... As well as a boxed design for lowers at least since the ones I have are both tube. My ultimate goal would be to run an 8" supra diff up front with mega long cv's to get even more travel, but being my DD and still in college with no intention to return home for long enough to accomplish that anytime soon, it pretty far in the distant future...

Also jealous of the job, sounds like a blast!

Edit: Also forgot, you're running 4.88's right now correct? if you go to 37's do you think you're going to, or will need to, move to 5.29's? I have the same intentions of 37's after all the LT work is done but I have yet to re-gear myself after I put on 315's...

A centermount Supra diff is definitely a good idea. I'll probably build a simple bolt on long travel set up just because it will be so easy. But I think my end goal is a solid axle setup. Actually, if you'd be willing, I'd pay shipping to use your kit to build a jig for myself.

I am not running 4.88's yet. I'm still on 4.10s. I'm planning to regear summer of 2017 with a front air locker. I think 4.88's and a manual will be fine with 35's. I'm actually very content with 4.10s and 35s. I have plenty of get up and go.

You have to be one of the most popular kids on campus now with that job if you weren't before....:bounce:

My great uncle worked for Lee distributors (Anheuser Busch) in Columbia SC for 41 years. Made some serious $$$. Was also easily the most popular guy in his neighborhood.
