4Running Daily's Build Thread

A centermount Supra diff is definitely a good idea. I'll probably build a simple bolt on long travel set up just because it will be so easy. But I think my end goal is a solid axle setup. Actually, if you'd be willing, I'd pay shipping to use your kit to build a jig for myself.

I am not running 4.88's yet. I'm still on 4.10s. I'm planning to regear summer of 2017 with a front air locker. I think 4.88's and a manual will be fine with 35's. I'm actually very content with 4.10s and 35s. I have plenty of get up and go.

Then you make me think I need a 5 speed swap... Honestly I love the convenience of the auto and may just do one of the valve body upgrades since they don't appear to be that difficult and with the write up that was posted recently I definitely think I can do it.

I was thinking 5.29's if I regear once I've got everything on and ready for 37's. I'm already running 4.30 in the rear and 4.10 in the front, so I never go in 4low and rarely use 4wd. But I'm also going to build out dual cases so I feel like that might be overkill. I was also contemplating whipping up a 2" or so bracket drop to make the supra diff fit properly and just stick with 2wd for a while (I'll also be converting to manual hubs). Oh and the FJZ80 axles you mentioned, I may swap my rear for one of those considering the fact that its full float, with disk's and wider like the front will be... (just wanna see how similar they are and easily they will swap over dont wanna do a ton of shit back there yet)

I don't know how I feel about shipping you the TC stuff but If i can get the jig built over thanksgiving or christmas (only two time I'm going home this year) I wouldn't really have a problem shipping that to you. Gotta do way more research on how to approach that but it can't be that difficult, right?

I've been actively looking for a good deal on an 80 rear axle. I'm gonna swap that one in first, hopefully soon. It should be relatively easy.

I'll take the jig! Depending on how good you are with a caliper, you could just share the triangle measurements. It really shouldn't be that hard to build.

Alright you figure out the rear axle swap details and I'll work on figuring out the jig! I also have a spare frame laying around at the moment.....

Not to mention disk brakes, factory locker's, the ABS sensors plug right into the factory harness and the pumpkin is a bit more offset moving it farther away from the gas tank...

The locker is actually the weak link. I'm gonna try to find an open diff and throw an air locker in it.

No shit? How so? Same problem with the 4Runner factory 8"?

Edit. And I hop on craigslist to find a 97 LX 450 part out with both axles still underneath... Gotta do a little research to make sure it's all correct but that was way to fast and I probably don't have the money after the LT purchase... Maybe I should text him...

Friday morning 2 friends and I headed to Moab, Ut where we were greeted by 100's of Jeeps. Most even appeared to be running and driving!

We were gonna camp at Sand Flats Rec. Area, but it was full. So we headed out to BFE and accidentally camped in the middle of a group of 8 Land Cruisers.
Ran a couple easy trails and walked some of the harder ones like Britney Spears and El Dorado :drool:

Woke up Saturday morning and ran Top of the World because I remember reading it was easy and debatably 2WD accessible. So I thought I could finish it fairly quickly and then drive to Colorado. The problem was, I'm not capable of taking easy lines or going around anything ever.

New skid plate doing wonders for my approach angle.

After that we headed to Crested Butte, Colorado.

Sadly, most of my photos are pretty blurry after that.
We ran Engineer Pass first.

What a difference a week makes. I am jelly of the snow!

Great trip, looked really fun.

I would have preferred the lack of snow! I had to turn around once we got to the top. The snow was old and had turned into ice. Making it impassable for me. Didn't want to try it without someone else there to pull me out
