**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

I missed it by a week!:dammit:

I missed it too

Has anyone been successful beyond the 5/31 date? I've read elsewhere that people were denied. Just seeing before if I should even bother trying... I mean... i guess always worth a shot

Mine literally just cracked yesterday...

That sucks... like seriously, maybe give Toyota a call and see if they'll be really really nice? It's an odd situation since it was fine up until just now.

Unfortunately not really unless they're feeling super merciful. The program was a warranty enhancement, so their thoughts on it is "we gave you X amount of time to get it done, that was super nice of us!" That being said, squeaky wheel gets the oil sometimes.

This sucks. Purchased my 2004 4R a few weeks back and didn't notice the hairline cracks in the dash. The previous owner had the warranty recall letter in the glove box, but obviously did not get anything done about it. I can live with the cracks as they are barely noticeable, but I'm curious if anyone has tried to repair hairline cracks (maybe some sort of caulking or silicone - paint matched of course)?

If I were you - I would contact local Toyota dealers and discuss the situation with them. If you showed proof of your sale purchase including date, at least one might be flexible and replace your dash under warranty program. At least that's how I would treat customers if I was upper management for a Toyota dealership. Especially if the previous owner did not take action regarding the enhancement program. In my eyes, I would not be happy knowing a previous owner sold the 4R in bad faith where he could have mentioned something about the enhancement program with the new owner instead of forcing him to find out about it through an online site.

As for your Q - I am pretty sure there is nothing concrete that can fix the cracks...once it cracks, it's going to get worse eventually. When I first noticed cracks on my '04, it wasn't too bad until months later where it was starting to expand from one side to another. Luckily I got the letter in mail about the recall and took my 4R in the next day for approval. I would consider getting a dash cover / insist no passenger(s) lay things/feet on the dash in the future.

Thanks, I'm planning on calling Toyota to see if anything can be done, but I don't have much hope given what I've read from others. The cracks are barely noticeable now, so I'll keep an eye on them to see if that changes in the near future. I'm also not sure when they occurred, whether recent or years ago...

Well after not having any noticeable cracks, I just saw one appear across the drivers side dash. Anyone able to get this done after the expiration date?

This is awesome. This will help a friend of mine out finally haha

Landon, I'm confused, how will this help out your friend?

The Enhanced Warranty period has expired, no one can get their dash replaced any longer unless they got to a dealer and had the dash inspected, met the requirements and got the dash ordered before May 31th 2017!!

Super frustrating, I am out of luck too, I tried talking to as many people as I could. Because it would be "unfair" to give one to me after because other people couldn't. But yet they realize that these dash boards are crap. You would think they would have a little movement to keep people happy.

Got my 4Runner in early-to-mid May, wish I would've known about this. Dash has some cracks, nothing horrible but definitely a bummer I could've got it replaced had I known about this when I purchased my 4R.

It wouldn't hurt to hit a couple of dealerships and just see if they might can help you. Last thing i would do is just sit on my hands.

After being on a waiting list for over a year and a half my ship (dash) has come in. Wondering if there is a best practice for what to do in advance of handing the truck off. I have a number of aftermarket switches in the blank factory location on the lower left kick panel. Should I be concerned enough to remove these items in advance or what? Would like any experiences from those who've gone before me. I do have an aftermarket radio, but I'm not planning to go to that length to prep it for them - if they can remove a factory radio they. Can remove this one. Again not planning to do their job for them, but if anyone has some easy things that would be worth doing, I'd like to consider it. I'll clean out glove box, console, etc.

I left my switch (auxiliary foglights) and my factory radio in and they didn't have an issue with em. I know that others have had different experiences, though.

It seems that some dealers/techs don't mind the aftermarket stuff and some will disconnect it all if it's part of what they need to deal with when doing the R&R of the dash.

I would suggest asking your dealer if it's an issue, if it is ask what you need to do to make it a non-issue before they install the dash.

I got my 4runner on the list at the very end of May as it had just started to develop a small crack nearest the driver side vent. We waited about 4 weeks for the dash to arrive and they installed it earlier this month.

There were no issues with any of my aftermarket wiring (stereo, charge ports, compass mirror, auto headlights) and everything is still working like when I brought it in. I don't have any obvious new rattles and everything appears to have the same fit and finish as before. The new dash does have a unpleasant smell to it that I hope will eventually fade.

So I noticed a small crack in mine last week, now I have two very large cracks. Sounds like I'm SOL after reading this thread by a few months. That's sucks.

Just noticed a crack in the same spot on my 2003--just months after the deadline. Previously thought i was uneffected. My loss I guess.

Anyone experience any AC issues after getting dash replaced? A friend of a friend with an early 4th gen had her dash replaced (still need to verify how long ago) and now her AC is only cold on the passenger side. General consensus is that this is the 4th gen's way of telling us it's low on refrigerant. If the evaporator sprung a leak due to being pulled around during a dash replacement, would a repair be covered under warranty/policy? Any advice on how to go about this with the dealer? I'm guessing she'd have to somehow prove that the dash replacement is the cause of the leak, which to me sounds like she's SOL.

As a small update to my dash replacement, I just noticed that the new dash was installed without the original or a replacement VIN tag. Is this the expected result or did they forget to transfer and/or install a replacement?

VIN plate is not on the dash panel, it is on structure and just visible trough the dash opening window. They must of covered it up with something but I'm sure it still there.
