**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

Have any of you gotten your "second letter", stating you can bring the vehicle in for repair? May 1st is approaching rapidly!

I do feel that Toyota is going above and beyond by fixing this. Surprised they aren't limiting it to the initial owner or with some other caveat. The reality is, however, it is an inferior dash pad. I had an 86 4Runner that aside from some cracking around the vents up by the defroster, was in fine shape. It's disappointing that manufacturers would be getting "worse" and not better with their materials.

I was wondering what else I should be considering to look at for repairs while the dealer has the dash off. I would think it would cut down on the cost of other repairs since the dash will be off. Any suggestions?

I would suggest that if your Runner has over 100k miles on it, and you have NOT had already replaced, to go ahead and get the A/C Evaporator coil replaced as it sits between the dash and the firewall. It seems that EVERY 4th gen Runner eventually has this problem. We're talking about a $200.00 part that costs $1,200.00 to replace because of its location..... Just food for thought.

The current letter states that the 2nd stage "repair" is due out in "May 2015" so it could be May 1st - May 31st.

I'm keeping tabs on TIS myself for my own vehicle so I'll post anything if I see it.

So......

here's the deal at least in New York

Originally i called toyota customer service to insure that i was in fact covered, which confirmed i was covered under the warranty enhancement program, i was given a reference number in case it was later needed

Next: I called my local Toyota dealer and spoke with customer service (first caller had no clue of the program) second caller a few days later instructed me to make an appointment and noted the so they could inspect it (needed before they would order part) they also noted the reference number

Show up for them to inspect it and gentleman tells me you need to they need to take photos and determine it was not cause by misuse, abuse etc...

he saw my half moon crack over the airbag area and confirmed it's "classic" of how they are cracking 2-4 weeks i will get a call to bring it in for the estimated (7hr) replacement

I have a 2003 that I ordered new. I talked to the service manager and he said that stage one was to reimburse those that had their dash replaced and paid for it. He said it may be later this summer before stage two kicks in and that he would call, or I can check in, to get mine replaced.
The extended warranty covers several models.

Which NY dealer did you take it to?

Sunrise Toyota in Islip, NY

2-4 weeks, they give me a loaner car and they put it in, he said they "WILL NOT" order the part without inspection first

there are approx 3.8 million vehicles affected, that's 27+million hours of labor + parts they are not going to make this easy. I suggest you call your local dealer and make the appointment before it turns ugly

Thanks that's not far from where I live. Since this is an extensive task I want to go to a dealer with good techs. I haven't found a good Toyota dealer on LI yet. Huntington Toyota's service advisors are very pushy and try to sell unneccesary work and Smithtown Toyota is overpriced but since its warranty work i might go to them. I really would like to see someone on this forum get it done first before I jump in. Also my 4runner does not have webbed cracks like some other members on the forum. I just have one long hairline crack across the dashboard starting from top of the instrument panel. So it might not be enough damage for them to authorize it under warranty.

My dash crack is only maybe 5"

Has anyone here received a 2nd letter?

Or should I call the 1-800 number or my local dealer? (I haven't yet, but did receive the 1st letter)

This is

Amazing that Toyota would do this. I've owned my 2004 for about 6 months. This is why I'll never buy anything but a Toyota. Calling my local dealership in Denver today.

Although I'm a bit late in responding preacher thanks. Seem like a great suggestion.
