4th Gen: OME Med and heavy duty coils question.

Hi I wanted to know why it says (** Med and Heavy coils should not be used without front weight already installed**) on the toytec description of OME 3' coils. Would it really be ok if I installed the heavy coils without having an aftermarket bumper? I was planning to buy the medium or heavy duty coils and install them. Then later on get an aftermarket "shrock works" bumper with a winch. Would the coils affect my 4runner in anyway if I installed the heavy or medium coils? Thanks.:shrug:

WTF? That's pure lawyer talk.

A normal person would say: Your rig will ride like a truck - a bit stiff in the rear if you don't have any wt. in the back. Load it up and it's like a Cadiliac and minimal sag.

Here is a pix with 300 lbs off the back.

The HD's were perfect for my application. Just depends on how you use or plan to use your rig. If you don't hau,l sitck with the meds's - they will be fine. Perhaps a bit stiffer than stock? Good luck and let us know how ya do.

Yes the med or heavy springs without the extra weight WILL EFFECT RIDE GREATLY. I installed some rear OME coils on the rear of my old 90 cause of sag they were the additional 500# 2.5" lift coils and it was a nightmare without any additional weight like riding on a rock you seriously needed a kidney belt to drive it. THEY ARENT KIDDING with the must have additional weight. when i had my 250+ lb bike hanging 2' off the back of the truck on my carrier it rode fine plus my gear and tools. anything sort of that was a rock seriously weld your shocks solid and drive around thats how they were.

Lol yea thats all the info they gave when I was looking at the product, I was just concerned what it meant exactly. So pretty much they are saying that it will be a very stiff ride when you have no additional weight but other than that good to go! Thanks Colemanfu . Btw Clean looking t4r :boink:!

I have OME myself and I would not recommend the heavy coils unless you plan to load them up. I have both heavy and light on two of my toyotas. They do rid a bit different however on the heavy one I have a 200 bumper on the front which helps keep the nose down and rides good. If I did not I think I would be nose high..

getting ready to have the heavy's installed. Good info to know. But am planning on the shrockworks front bumper. So I think the heavy's are needed.

I have OME heavys up front (with ARB winch/bumper) and OME mediums in the rear.

It is just a little too stiff for me. If I could go back and do it again, I would put mediums up front with the 5mm spacers.

It still rides better than our other cars (S2000 and GTI).
