4th gen speaker questions

One of my back door speakers went out, I went on sonicelectronics and they claim I need a 6.5" for front and back, I have 651's in my other car so I debated putting them in the 4r too...but then when I go to crutchfield they say certain 6.5"s wont fit, the polk 651s of course. I figured since it was a shallow version it should fit fine...

My plan is to upgrade the head unit to a double din and replace the speakers so that they all sound the same, possibly upgrade the sub and amp eventually. I dont really want to mess with the center speaker and tweeters or those little speakers in the hatch.

So the bottom line is do the polk 651's actually fit or should I look into something else that just drops in and will sound good with some stock speakers left in their locations?

just get the bracket from crutchfield and it doesnt matter

Very few (if any) will be direct fit. You'll undoubtedly need an adapter no matter which speaker you install. What's in the door now is an ABS plastic spacer that the OEM speaker screws to that attaches it to the door.

I put a 6.5" in there, but I removed the ABS spacer completely and made my own baffle to adapt it to the door. The 6.75" may fit since the opening in the steel skin of the door is a bit larger than it needs to be, but again...will more than likely need an adapter. There is alot of depth in the rear doors. Here are some pics I took for later reference. In the depth pic, that was measured to the side impact bar inside the door, and it is off centered as you can see in the other pic...so the magnet would have additional room. In the first pic you can see the OEM plastic adapter.

These are the 6.5" I installed and the baffle board I made to adapt them to the door.

Also, FYI...the front door speakers are 6x9's. The front doors are treated the same way as the rear with the adapters. A 6.5 or 6.75 would fit the fronts no problem, but of course would need an adapter to convert from oval to round speaker.
