Is the 2002 4wd? I think all the engines are tanks but I'm biased toward the 3rd generation (2002).

No its 2wd at $10K seems a little high. On rough roads which will ride smoother 3rd or 4th gen? Also do you know the ground clearance between the gens?

Dealer here has for sale a 2006 Limited 2wd 176,000 miles for $9000?
Also found a 2002 Limited one owner 84,500 miles for $10,000?

We are looking to buy a 4Runner to drive 3900 mile through Mexico to Belize and then use as a daily driver in the hills at a higher elevation in Belize the Cayo district.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in what year models are most reliable, which engines, and stock ground clearance, etc...

The roads are rough, but we're not planning to go off road. Although most would consider roads as off road especially in the rainy season.

A one owner 3rd gen with less than 85,000 miles? That's rare and sounds like a good deal if it was well maintained. The 3rd gen will have more stock ground clearance and if it is a 4wd, a better choice than a 2wd 4th gen offroad-wise, although not as comfortable as a daily driver/ distance commuter.

Thanks man, was trying to save $, but went shopping today and 4wd is definitely tempting. Found some 5th gens 4wd with the 4 cylinder 16 valve engine. Any opinions on that combo?

Customs charges on imports per cylinder 4, 6 or 8. They charge a lot more for 8cyl.

If i was going to Mexico I think I'd want the 4wd. For price comparison, I paid 11k for an 04 SR5 2wd with 87k miles in Austin at the end of last year.

4th gen v6 has a timing chain not a belt, the v8 is the belt, so there's that.

Posted in the main forum but since I'm a 4th gen guy I'll post here too. I have like 60-70 reusable ice packs that I'd like to see go to good use rather than trash so I'll ship as many as you want for free if you pay shipping. They are reusable and about 2"x7"x10" I'd guess but there are 2 sizes.
