4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

damn, i have the xreas system. Now i gotta research on what to do lift wise.

So quick question, with a spacer lift on the rear to keep my xreas system. Do the shocks extend that far or so i need a mount that lowers it? Or is it just fine to run the spacer on the rear with the shocks still there in factory location?

Didn't see your edit before replying. The spacer lift will cause your rear shocks to bottom out easier. Lowering them would make things ideal, but I'm not aware of anything out there to do this. Running a 1.5"-2" spacer shouldn't cause any issues, you just won't have as much down travel as stock. It'll work fine, you don't have to have anything for the shock.

thanks for the info, i appreciate it.

I do occasionally offroad but it never anything like crawling nor rocks. Just dirt roads and sand when i do.

I looked good at the shocks and it looks like there was at one point or another a small leak, shows signs o oil stains on the shock around where the line goes into it. I've read where you can remove it and cap the system and just forget about it after that. That is probably what i will be doing.

Thanks for the help.

If leaking, replacing them is the best choice. Yea, you can remove and disconnect the xreas lines about a foot from the shock and there is no need to cap the system.

Need some help/opinions...

So, it looks like I will be in the market for some new rims and tires at the beginning of next year, so I've been trying to do some research to find out what will work best and what I'll like best, but I need a little help. I know I'll be getting some Modified rims, so really, it's tire questions. Oh! And I plan to install a 3" Toytec lift as well if that helps.

-I love the look of BFG's, and right now, that is my top pick for tires. I really love the 285/70R17's, but I'm not sure if they will cause any rubbing issues? I'm not interested in cutting my truck, may be okay with removing my mudflaps, but that's about it. If not 285's, do 275's still look pretty similar?

I honestly will probably never do any "real" off roading because I have a 2WD, but I do love the look of the AT tires, but they will be driven 99% of their life on pavement. I've read a few posts arguing that BFG's/Duratracs are not comfortable for the road? Anyone feel like they work fine, opinions?

Open for other tires ideas too, BFG's have just been my top choice so far, they look pretty sweet with the Modified rims.

I would definitely go 265/70/17 or 275/70/17. I would not suggest the 285s if you don't want to cut. With the 275s, removing the mud flaps and some very minor trimming may be required. If you're not going to off road or tow heavy loads, I'd suggest sticking with a P rated tire because it will ride smother, weigh less (better mpg), and probably be cheaper. I can definitely tell a difference with my D rated Duratracs. Going with a P rated tire eliminates the BFG and Duratrac from your list. Some prefer the handling of the C/D/E rated tires over the P rated ones. You'll see the load rating listed in the tire size. Nitto Terra Grapplers, Bridgestone Revo 2, Firestone Destination AT, Cooper AT3, and Toyo Open Country AT II are all popular choices for an all terrain and I believe are offered in a P rated 265/70/17. Some are also offered in a P rated 285/70/17, but if you're not wanting to trim i wouldn't suggest those.

Thank you so much for the great information and help! I had a feeling the 285's would rub, every thread or post I could find said they had some kind of rubbing issues, boo. I'll def. look more into the 275's though, and also the other tire brands. I didn't know how the tire ratings either, the "C,D,E's" etc., so I will be looking into that as well. Thank you for the help, much appreciated!

Here is a great link to discuss tire load rating:

P vs C vs D vs E

I intend on adding the 3'' Toytec spacer kit, with 285/70/17's on OEM wheels.

I am ok with some trimming, and the possible body chop.

I will not be offroading.

Will I need anything else?

Hi all -

I currently have the Toytec Kit - 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits (Front and Rear) still sitting in the basement, waiting to be installed.

My understanding is the front is pre-set at 3" and can't go any lower. I just got my Shrockworks bumper installed and I am in desperate need to getting this done. But as I am doing more research, I find out that I might have to purchase more parts; diff drop, UCAS, etc. and my biggest concern is running into trouble with the CV axles where grease is popping out.

I am really debating on selling the front set or changing the Toytec Coils to the Adjustable Front Coil Kit from Toytec - Adjustable Front Coil Over Kit for Bilstein Shocks - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

I know this is eventually more money and I can spend the money on UCAS, diff drop etc. but again my concern is really the CVs leaking. This is my daily driver. My plan is to buy the coilover kit and just leave them at a 2.5" lift height vs. 3", so hopefully that will avoid all the extra worries.

If the Radflo is a better choice, I can go with that as well.

What are your thoughts?

That toytec kit should have come with the diff drop kit already. If i were you, I'd save some money and keep the ToyTec kit and leave it at 3 inches and never change it, thats what I did. Go grab the Light Racing UCAs, they're cheaper than other brands AND they're adjustable to make it easier for the shop to adjust the camber settings back to spec when getting an alignment.

I'm not sure whether or not the toytec lift can support the shrockworks bumper, i'd suggest researching an answer in the search bar on that one. best of luck to you

The ToyTec lift is the one i've been eye balling. I just want to read more feedback about the ride quality of it. I know 5100s Bilsteins are great already.

Are you certain that the front suspension can not be set lower with this kit? My understanding is that the springs alone give 1.6" of lift. Therefore the "adjustable" shock perch is providing 1.5" of lift at its pre-set height. I hear that it is "pre-set" to give 3"of lift. I do not think that is the only setting? I believe the perch can be relocated to .85" of shock lift or 0" of shock lift with only the spring providing lift. I asked this question in the Toytec Sponsor thread with no response in weeks. I'd like to know for sure this detail before I pull the trigger on this kit.

To answer your question - start reading from post #270 http://www.toyota-4runner.org/1119559-post270.html

I asked the same question before as well..

Like you were I am confused. I'd like a definitive answer and am still not satisfied as to the facts.

The part # appears to be the same for the spring 112620

This is what the website says about this spring:

"05-10 Tacoma 03-10 4Runner and FJ 1.6" lift"

Toytec/Eibach front coil lift springs - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

This is what the website says about the kit in question:

- Bilstein 5100 height adjustable front shocks
- Toytec/Eibach 112620 front lift coils

I think you're fine with that kit you have. You may find you need to raise the lower perch up a notch to offset the weight of the bumper, but you should be fine. I'm not positive which setting those come preset at. At under 3" lift, you don't need UCA's or a diff drop. However, the clamps on the CV boots aren't that good and it is very common for them to leak with even a mild lift. I had to re-clamp mine and haven't had any issues since.

Do you know which clamps are best? What about those metal zip ties?

ARK, thanks for your help with my questions. I got my Bilstein 5100', OME 884's & Superflex on today. Turned out really nice. There are some pics in the lift pics thread

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park idea of how much it is (or how much you paid) to have a 3/2 lift/level kit installed on your truck, along with rims and tires? I'm planning on getthing these things in a couple months and just trying to get a good idea of how much everything will be. Thanks! =)
